Sounds? Good!

The DC 4000 is actually a full set of drum microphones from the t.bone, comprising three different types of microphone: a BD 25 Beta, four CD 56 Betas, and a pair of EM 81 overhead microphones featuring back-electret capsule technology. What's on offer here is a set with a cohesive and convincing sound that can easily hold its own against microphones from more established brands – and yet for a very reasonable price. On top of that, there's the typically solid t.bone build quality, all packaged in a well-made aluminium carry case, which not only looks the part but also offers reliable protection against damage. Taken together, it's a genuinely strong package for drummers and anyone who works with drums.

Is there anything they can't do?

The dynamic BD‑25 Beta microphone is optimised for bass drum duties, delivering a full and weighty sound, and its 401g build gives it a reassuringly solid feel. The CD‑56 Betas – the set includes a full four of them – take care of toms and snare, where they perform reliably, giving the drum kit an open, punchy tone. For overheads, the set includes two EM 81 microphones, whose condenser design provides a natural and spacious image of the kit as a whole. The supplied adapters also make it easy to mount all the mics on stands with either 3/8" or 5/8" threads.

Ideal for standard setups

The DC 4000 drum microphone set offers excellent value for money, making it a genuine option for anyone looking to keep costs down without sacrificing dependable sound and reliable quality. The combination of solid construction, durability, and a convincing overall output is likely to leave every drummer smiling. With its practical seven-microphone configuration, capturing a standard drum kit is straightforward: One snare, three toms, a bass drum, and the full range of cymbals can all be miked up quickly and efficiently.

About the t.bone

Since 1994, the t.bone has been one of Thomann's in-house brands, and its name can be found on devices such as headphones, wireless systems, in-ear equipment, and various microphones and matching accessories. the t.bone products are made exclusively by renowned companies who also manufacture products for other well-known brands. This provides a clear advantage: Brand-quality products at very reasonable prices. And word gets around: One in seven Thomann customers has already bought at least one product from the t.bone.

Hit them hard

The mics in the DC 4000 set stand out in this price category (and among drum mics in general) for their overall build quality. It's not just the internal audio components that're well considered – the external construction is equally impressive. The capsules of the dynamic microphones, for example, are effectively shielded by a double-reinforced grille, made from layered wire mesh to guard against mechanical damage. Alongside that, the robust housings across all three microphone types add another level of durability, ensuring they'll survive even hard-hitting live sets. At the same time, these microphones are just as capable in a studio setting, where they deliver equally convincing results at high sound levels.

Fantastic value
luffarvante 20.09.2021
I bought this to get a solid foundation for recording drums and was not disappointed. After considering either getting a cheaper kit with everything I needed, or buying more expensive mics one by one, I decided to take a chance with this kit after reading and watching some reviews.
I was pleasantly surprised by what I could achieve with this kit.

The overheads are excellent, at least when paired with high-end cymbals.
With the right positioning they pick up exactly what I need - I've recorded just drums to a click track as well as together with bass and guitar in the same, rather small (~25m2) room and even with bass in the same room the bleed is very manageable.
I've also had great success using one overhead for close-micing a snare, paired with an SM57 (both phase-aligned and on top of the snare).

The kick mic is great and very versatile. I've gotten a very good sound from it, mostly in different positions inside the drum but also in front.
It makes both my 22" Pearl Wood Fiberglass and 20" Pearl MLX sing.

The tom microphones are great as well. I do prefer my Audix D2 over them but still don't mind reaching for these when I need to. As an added bonus, they sound terrific for close micing guitar cabs as well.

They come in a sturdy case that let you store them safely when not in use, and makes setting up our tearing down a breeze.

Durability is great as well; I've accidentally dropped or hit (while drumming) all but the overheads at least once, and they all still work perfectly.

All-in-all, you get enough microphones to let you record anything but the most elaborate drum kits plus a case that houses them all.
I couldn't recommend this microphone kit enough!

M
Great set of mics for starting out
Mark863 19.08.2013
This was the first set of drum mics I ever used and i found them a great set to start out with. They get the job done and done very well. I have used them for concerts and for recording and they've worked very well. They are amazing microphones for the price they are sold at. I would definitely recommend as an introductory set of microphones for drums. I havn't had many problems with these mics, the only thing that i can complain about is that sometimes the cymbals come out as a bit tinny in sound. I do not think they are the best mics for studio recordings though.
