Welcome to the era of the Atom

The Presonus Atom is a dynamic USB pad controller primarily designed for Studio One, PreSonus' own DAW, though it is equally capable in other environments, including Ableton Live. It provides an intuitive and hands-on workflow for beatmakers, producers, and live performers. The four-by-four grid of velocity and pressure-sensitive pads is ideal for finger drumming, triggering loops, and controlling virtual instruments. Additionally, four infinite encoders and a host of RGB-lit function buttons provide quick navigation and control over software parameters, ideal for crafting beats and performances without having to rely on a mouse. Inspired by the iconic MPC workflow, the Presonus Atom allies exceptional pad performance with a compact, studio-friendly format.

Designed for beats and production

The 16 pads provide a dynamic playing experience, capturing both subtle and forceful attacks with precision. The RGB backlighting reflects the drum kit layout in Studio One’s Impact XT sampler, providing clear visual feedback that streamlines workflow for beatmakers. Four assignable encoders offer hands-on control of key parameters such as filter cutoff, resonance, EQ settings, and effect modulation, while dedicated transport and navigation buttons simplify recording, playback, undo, and metronome control. The Atom also includes built-in pattern-based sequencing, enabling users to program beats and loops step by step directly from the controller, all but eliminating the need for a mouse.

Presonus Atom, USB Pad Controller

Portable and adaptable to any workflow

With its compact and lightweight design, the Presonus Atom is built for on-the-go music production. Powered via USB, it requires no external adapter, making it an ideal mobile production companion. Whether used for finger drumming, triggering loops, or sequencing beats, it remains responsive and expressive to play. The pads react dynamically to every nuance, capturing everything from subtle ghost notes to powerful accents with precision, and its streamlined layout and intuitive controls make it easy to sketch out ideas in the moment, whether in the studio or on stage. Offering a unique hands-on approach to beatmaking and real-time performance, the Atom greatly enhances workflow without requiring constant interaction with a computer screen. Fully compatible with Studio One Artist and Ableton Live Lite, the Atom provides an out-of-the-box solution for composing, arranging, and performing across multiple DAWs.

About Presonus

Presonus is a US company founded in 1995 by Jim Odom and Brian Smith in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The firm designs hardware and software at both professional and more affordable levels for musicians and producers. Presonus first made a splash in the mid-1990s with the DCP8, an eight-channel analogue compressor/limiter/gate with fader and mute automation that could be digitally controlled by MIDI. In the early 2000s followed a series of microphone amplifiers and the first audio interfaces for the then-emerging home studio scene. Today, the company's product range includes audio interfaces, microphone preamps, digital mixing consoles, and studio monitors as well as the established DAW software Studio One.

Seamless DAW integration and live performance

Designed in tandem with Studio One, the Presonus Atom allows users to browse sounds, load instruments, and sequence patterns directly from the hardware. The navigation buttons streamline preset selection, mixer adjustments, and drum editing, keeping the creative process uninterrupted. In Ableton Live, the Atom serves as a powerful clip launcher and drum pad controller, while the pre-mapped controls allow users to effortlessly launch new creative sessions. The assignable infinite encoders provide hands-on control over track levels, panning, and all effects in real time during live shows. Its rugged build, responsive pads, and real-time workflow abilities combine to make the Presonus Atom a compelling tool for producers, beatmakers, and live performers alike.

Versatile USB Controller
Ronsthebg 21.06.2020
I purchased the Atom to work with my Studio One 4 Pro DAW software and really like the workflow and versatile pads. The Atom has easily assignable pads for various sound sets. The pads are perfectly responsive to my choice of midi plugins. There are several banks as well.

One down side is that the Atom does not have a power switch and remains on as long as the PC is on. It doesn't cause any issues or use much energy. Hopefully, there is a fix coming from Presonus. However, to avoid connecting and disconnecting the Atom and taking a chance and having a loose USB input, I just shout down my PC at night. You could use a switchable USB Hub to solve this issues as well. I might do that in the future. Never-the-less, I really like this controller and would recommend it to anyone looking for this type of device.

PreSonus Atom
who what where 23.04.2021
All the videos regarding setting up the Atom are little misleading with regard to plug and go. You must make sure the firmware is bang up to date or it will not work and l found l had to restart the system for it all to kick in. But once this was done it all works brilliantly and does exactly what l want it to do. I would recommend it.

k
just not right
knownoone 10.09.2019
The pads are decent, they play/respond well. The rotary encoders though- they are as poor as I've come across ever. The response of the encoders is really slow and makes them impossible to use. A lot of features under a shift button also doesn't make it an intuitive unit for me. Comes with Studio One Artist though which is a great software. The unit doesn't feel as sturdy as I'd hoped.
