Nice but needs work.
Drumbot 08.05.2020
The drum is ok but the fitted reso head was so warped and crinkly that the drum was unusable and couldn't be tuned properly. The snare mechanism was loose, as was the odd nut inside the drum. NOT Thomann's fault, this is how it came from the factory. If you put new heads top and bottom and are ok with the loose feel of the snare adjusting mechanism then this drum should be fine. It's a nice size for converting to an E-drum with a mesh head and trigger. That will be much nicer than using smaller electronic mesh or rubber pads. Take off the snare wires, take off the bottom reso head, cut the mylar from the reso, refit it so the drum has a head-rim inside and then the drum will look normal and not weird with the bottom hoop missing. Voila ! AND .. If the snare adjusting mechanism rattles, remove it as it's simply bolted-on.

Cheap but pretty good
Neptunian 30.07.2018
Of course, one shouldn't have insane expectations from a snare drum that costs like two top-notch heads, but actually it is pretty good bang (no pun intended but it is applicable) for buck. The stock heads are OK but this drum actually sounds quite seriously good when armed with high quality heads - it should be able to serve both as a primary or a secondary snare and face the nominally much more expensive opposition in the piccolo snare class. The tightening mechanism is a bit crude but gets the job done, and the build quality is actually pretty fine.

Makes you blink - in a good way.
Rich 'The Prof' F-G 05.04.2019
When I was young, my friend's dad had a Ludwig Black Beuty snare drum. What I remember most about that snare is the way it made you blink with the power and tone.

While not quite as breathtaking as that 70s snare classic, this snare gets a long way there. much further than it ought to for its price, in fact.

I've had drummers surprised by how good such a cheap snare is; I certainly am.

If you need a solid snare but can't afford the big guns, or you just want an affordable back-up snare, this is the one.

Great value!
Tiggr 31.07.2020
For the price you get great value for this drum! And it truly is a beast. Action, volume, range, it’s all there, Even with the stock head it sounds really nice if you tweak it a bit. A damper? Maybe. Or you keep your technique in cheque and play center head if u want to keep the overtones out 😉 Lovely instrument for festivals / samba batteria gigs.
