The CME C2MIDI Pro can do more than meets the eye: It's not just a USB-C-to-MIDI cable, but also a data filter, mapper, and router in one. Its 32-bit processor delivers four times the speed of conventional interfaces when transmitting MIDI data. To ensure the seamless integration of all MIDI devices – and secure and error-free MIDI input – the C2MIDI Pro has a built-in optocoupler. Overall, the technical architecture is very well put together, guaranting the precise transmission of all MIDI commands, including Clock, SysEx, MTC and MPE. This makes the CME C2MIDI Pro a compact solution for reliably sending MIDI data from external hardware to a computer – for recording music or controlling software instruments – as well as transmitting MIDI data from a computer to external hardware, for triggering sounds on synths and much more.
With the CME C2MIDI Pro, the MIDI ports of a hardware device can be connected to a computer, smartphone, or tablet via a USB-C port, enabling the transmission of up to 16 MIDI channels. Outwardly, this devices seem little more than a 2m cable, but in reality its an active adapter capable of making countless mobile musical functions possible. Equally, two instruments can also be linked to another via the two MIDI ports on the CME C2MIDI Pro, so it can function as a filter and mapper. Suitable computer software can be used to create custom rules for filtering out specific MIDI. For further peace of mind, a green flashing LED on the USB connector provides visual feedback when MIDI data is being transmitted.
The CME C2MIDI Pro was created for musicians who want reliable control over their MIDI data streams and flexible management of their equipment. It can be used with keyboards, digital pianos, e-drums, effect pedals, electronic wind instruments (EWIs), drum machines, synthesizers... the list is almost endless. Thanks to its compact size and a weight of just 89g, it's also an unbeatably portable way of sending and receiving MIDI data: The retractable USB-C connector also means there's nothing that can break off, wherever the device is being used, stored, or moved. It supports macOS, Windows, Linux and ChromeOS, and is class-compliant, meaning no manual driver installation is required after first use.
CME is a Singapore-based innovator and an executive board member of the MIDI Association, developing smart MIDI tools shaped by community feedback. Focused on seamless workflows, the company creates both wireless and wired solutions for modern music makers. With its WIDI Bluetooth MIDI technology and iWA wireless audio initiatives, CME continues to expand what is possible in the hybrid world of audio and MIDI. Its tools — from wireless MIDI interfaces to smart USB solutions — are designed to operate invisibly in the background, allowing musicians to remain fully in their creative flow.
The free UxMIDI Tools software suite for macOS and Windows can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website (requiring macOS X or Windows 7 in 64-bit). In the app's MIDI Router Settings, the signal flow of MIDI commands can be configured, while the MIDI Mapper can be used to customise the rules that determine how the CME C2MIDI Pro converts input into output: For instance, playing a note on a keyboard can actually trigger a Control Change message like modulation. In the MIDI Filter Settings, specific MIDI commands can be filtered out of the data stream so they don't reach the hardware currently in use: This feature has primarily been designed to prevent older devices in particular from responding incorrectly.
