The RockBoard MOD 5 Cab SIM + DI Patchbay combines a three-way patchbay, an active DI box, and an IR-based cabinet simulation in a single compact module for maximum flexibility. The MOD 5 comes with six pre-installed impulse responses, which can be substituted for personal IR files at any time using the free software. The MOD 5 functions as a central access point for all pedalboard connections, including the amplifier, mixing console, and audio interface, which not only shortens the required cable paths, but also provides users with a better overview of their effects setup.
The TRS sockets (A-C) on the RockBoard MOD 5 provide a through connection from the front to the rear of the module to allow flexible routing of the effects pedals. This allows users to create a setup using the four-cable method, for example, which enables an amplifier's effects loop to be used and the preamp and modulation effects to be positioned at the correct point in the signal chain. Players can also use the MOD 5 as a DI box and feed the signal directly into a mixing console or audio interface, plus any background noise caused by ground loops is eliminated courtesy of the ground/lift switch. What is more, users can select whether a balanced or unbalanced signal is present at the XLR-OUT port, as well as having the freedom to add the switchable IR-based cabinet simulations to the DI signal.
The RockBoard MOD 5 Cab SIM + DI Patchbay ensures that guitarists and bassists are optimally prepared for every situation and represents the perfect accompaniment to any pedalboard, whether as a flexible patchbay for organising connections and providing clear and neat cable routes to the exterior of the pedalboard, or as an active DI box with high-quality cabinet simulation. The patchbay and DI sections can be used independently of each other but also in combination, which is where the MOD 5 truly unleashes its full potential. The adjustable headphone connection with its 3.5mm mini-jack socket completes the ensemble perfectly, giving users the advantage of being able to practise in complete silence.
RockBoard is a brand belonging to Warwick Music Distribution GmbH, which is based in Markneukirchen in Germany's Vogtland region. RockBoard's range focuses on pedalboards, which are available in numerous different designs to suit any application and budget, and are complemented by an extensive range of pedalboard accessories, from slick patchbays for expanding the boards and high-quality patch cables for loss-free connection through to high-performance power adapters and the "QuickMount system" for rapid effect changes. In short, RockBoard offers virtually everything that players need to easily set up their own individual pedalboard.
Six pre-installed impulse responses are stored in the RockBoard MOD 5's integrated memory, which users can select with ease using the seven-position rotary switch on the front of the module. The DI signal complete with impulse response is present at the XLR output, while the parallel output enables simultaneous use of the direct and simulation signals. The micro USB port, which is located underneath the rotary switch, can be used to install firmware updates or store personal IR files (a maximum of 1024 samples in WAV format) instead of the impulse responses included with the module. This process is also supported by the user-friendly MOD 5 IR Loader Software with its intuitive user interface.
