The MK4 series takes the Novation Launchkey controller into its fourth generation. Alongside 25 keys for playing melodies, this model also features 16 pads, nine faders, eight encoders for controlling plugin parameters, an arpeggiator, an input for connecting a sustain pedal, and pitchbend and modulation wheels – as well as a screen that displays information about every parameter using at least four characters, so there's no struggling to decode cryptic abbreviations. Additional functions that facilitate the workflow include note quantisation as well as Chord, Scale, and Arpeggio modes, which in this generation have been expanded, so that musicians don't just have to stay in the selected key, but can also play with genuine expression and emotion. The Novation Launchkey offers seamless integration into all widely used DAWs, enabling extensive parameter control for truly modern music productions.

Pads, chords, custom components

In addition to playing notes with the 25 keys, beatmakers can record drum patterns using the Launchkey's 16 pads, which are RGB backlit and feature polyphonic aftertouch. All inputs are velocity-sensitive, with playing dynamics not just reproduced, but also recorded. Scale mode can be used to compose entire songs without a single off-key note, while full chords can be played with just one key using the Fixed Chord mode: Chord progressions can also be mapped to the 16 pads for even more expressive playing. The 25 keys can be split into two separate sound zones, and really creative keyboardists can assign buttons, faders, and encoders to hardware or software functions in four separate custom modes. The Novation Components app even allows users to create their own templates for flexible settings, stored in the controller's internal memory. What's more, beginners can learn to play the controller more fluently with the complementary lessons from Melodics – specifically for Novation users.

Sophisticated software suite

The Launchkey MK4 series offers not only an intuitive user interface for a fluid workflow, but also an extensive range of helpful features, such as Chord and Scale modes – for effortless musicmaking. The Novation Launchkey 25 MK4's comprehensive range of functions can be used in any MIDI-capable DAW, and even beginners can get started right away with the software package included here. Besides the fully-featured Ableton Live Lite there are numerous virtual instruments, such as a 4-in-1 bundle from GForce with monophonic and polyphonic synthesizers, as well as a tape sampler. The newest addition to the frequently updated software suite is Novation Play, an exclusive collaboration with Klevgrand that includes over 80 pristine and polished basses, leads, pads, drum kits and more, sampled without exception from vintage Novation, Sequential, and Oberheim synthesizers. Of course, they're all integrated seamlessly with the physical device's controls for that immediate hardware feeling.

About Novation

The English company Novation has been producing affordable popular synthesizers as well as MIDI controllers and keyboards since its foundation in 1992. It was later acquired by the well-known British audio interface manufacturer Focusrite, but the brand still exists within the parent company. The outstanding design, high-quality workmanship and excellent price-performance ratio of the Novation Launchpads have continued to win them many new users. Practical tools for complex productions

As mentioned above, the Launchkey’s Scale mode provides predefined chords in a specific scale, while the User Chord mode makes it possible to assign chords of up to six notes to each individual pad. These allocations are stored in the internal memory of the controller, so it's easy to access them again after each system boot. The arpeggiator also offers different modes for designing varied patterns: Pressing Shift and Arp activates the Key Latching function, which holds all of the notes being played. When Arp is pressed again for a few seconds, Arp Control Lock is activated, and the user receives access to every parameter via the encoders: With Mutate, the pitch of the original chord can be changed – and with Deviate, the rhythm of the pattern can be modified. In addition to these functions, the Device Control mode can be used to intuitively control up to eight plugin parameters simultaneously in Ableton.

I am absolutely satisfied! After several weeks of market research I found what I need! As a long time Maschine user, after a long period of unhappiness, I have decided to leave the NI ecosystem altogether. I went back to creating through Fl Studio! I'm very happy to be able to explore the freedom of creativity and a feature-packed workflow again after all these years! Of course I needed to find an ideal MIDI solution, with good FL Studio integration, features and at the same time still be somewhat portable! Voila! There aren't many to choose from and Minilab3, Fl Keys and Launchkey MK4 have made it to the finals! And the fair winner was Launchkey 25 MK4! Thank you!

Pros:
1. The integration with Fl studio is very nice, but some DAW control functions are complicatedly hidden and take a long time to get used to, however, once you get used to the features you want to control, you will be delighted! Of course also with other DAWs! Not only Ableton! Sweet!
2. Endless encoders (A big difference compared to FL Keys), Thank you!
3. 4 encoder user modes with 16 functions that's a total of 64 quickly assignable functions in the project, tools, effects, whatever! Could there be more of them? Sure! Do you want to make a mess of it? No! It's perfect! + 4 user pad modes! Sweet!
4. 16 beautifully sensitive pads with polyaftertpuch! Don't be disappointed by the size, to me as a Maschine user I dare say these pads are even better!
5. Very advanced arp, chord, scale mode, real fun, and of course added user chord mode! BIG Thank you!

This midi keybord is a beast, very affordable price and features that, along with FL Studio, absolutely made it possible for me to leave NI ecosystem and I am grateful for it! I don't think I'm missing any features at the moment and the possibilities are staggering, I really can keep exploring and creating without feeling suffocated!

cons:
1. I would like to see user adjustable colour schemes for the pads, not only for the user but for all functions in general, I wish they would add such an option in the update
2. The keybord body and the keys themselves don't look very well crafted, I think it's better in the higher sizes versions 49 and 61 keys, but for the price I don't expect luxury, because it all overcomes the functionality!

Gutes kleines Masterkeyboard

Ich brauchte ein kleines Kompaktes Midi-Keyboard, mit dem auch DAW Steuerung von primär Logic + Bitwig gut möglich ist.
Das Launchkey25 Mk4 erfüllt alle Anforderungen und ermöglicht eine gute Steuerung.
Der Tasten-Anschlag ist in Ordnung für so ein Tool, aber natürlich nicht mit höherpreisigen Modellen vergleichbar.

Die Bedienung braucht aber natürlich etwas Übung und Orientierung, um durch die Mehrfachbelegungen und Menüs durchzusteigen; scheint soweit sinnvoll und durchdacht zu sein - habe das Keyboard aber noch nicht lange genug, um es wirklich beurteilen zu können.

Nach Firmware-Update und Installation der Mappings für Logic lief es out of the box, ohne dass ich micht mit manuellem Mapping rumschlagen musste. Das wird garantiert noch kommen, um es für individuelle Anforderungen nutzbar zu machen - für den Standard-Einsatz passen die Fabrik-Settings.

Das Kunststoff-Gehäuse macht einen stabilen und relativ wertigen Eindruck

Einer der größten Nachteile dieses Produkts ist, dass es keinen Ausschalter gibt, sodass man es immer herausziehen muss, was unpraktisch ist. Die Qualität ist jedoch sehr gut, langlebig und zuverlässig. Die Funktionen sind reichhaltig, aber vielleicht ein wenig zu kompliziert, und es dauert eine Weile, sie sich anzueignen. Insgesamt ein tolles Produkt.
