Far more than just a modeller!
More than ten years after the launch of Line 6 Helix, the manufacturer is celebrating its flagship model with the new Stadium series. Far from being a simple update, the Line 6 Helix Stadium XL Floor is a well-thought-out evolution of the already powerful engine, turning it into a flexible workstation for studio and live setups. At its heart is the new Agoura modelling technology, which enables a smooth transition between idealised digital precision and powerful amplifier tones, while reproducing the interaction between speaker and amplifier to achieve a more natural feel within the presets. Lighting and video setups, as well as setlists, can be easily controlled and adapted to the set via the automation feature, and in addition, the device can also function as a fully-fledged USB audio interface.
For purists and creative minds
With its built-in touchscreen and additional controls, the Line 6 Helix Stadium XL's user interface is highly intuitive, allowing even purists to quickly find their way around. The more advanced editing options are structured similarly to a DAW layout, simplifying creative sound design and allowing almost all parameters to be adjusted directly on the device or via a computer. Extensive stereo setups with a variety of effects are straightforward to manage thanks to the powerful DSP, while the XL version's comprehensive routing allows two instruments to be used simultaneously, and a vocal signal to be processed via the XLR input. In addition, it can be controlled with up to four drum triggers, features MIDI in and out, FX loops, connectors for up to four expression pedals and, of course, a headphone output.
The all-inclusive package
As players have come to expect from Line 6, the sound quality is outstanding here and leaves little to be desired. Covering virtually every musical style and preference, the selection includes around 150 amplifiers, 60 speaker cabinets, and 260 effects, on top of which existing Helix users can import their presets into the Stadium and further refine them with the additional Agoura amp models. Twenty-two models are available at launch, and the powerful DSP opens the door for more features and sounds in the future. The possibilities of the Line 6 Helix Stadium XL range from classic amp modelling to stage show control and integration into studio setups, while those who explore its extensive features will benefit not only from outstanding sound quality but also from a reliable MediaHub with a precise workflow.
About Line 6
The American manufacturer Line 6, which has been an affiliate of the Yamaha group since 2014, is one of the pioneers in the field of digital amplifiers for guitarists. The company was founded in 1996 and, that same year, presented the world’s first digital modelling amplifier: The AxSys 212. The breakthrough came in 1998 with Line 6's POD, which made sound modelling available in home studios for the first time. Since 2015, the Helix series has provided even more refined simulations. The Variax technology has additionally allowed the Californian firm to model electric guitars sounds with ever more flexibility. Besides effects pedals, Line 6 also offers software and recording technology, and is active in the field of digital wireless systems for sound transmission and small PA systems.
A full-featured audio interface
In addition to its advantages for live performances, the Line 6 Helix Stadium XL can also be used as a high-end solution for recording applications. It connects to macOS and Windows via USB and functions as a standalone audio interface, enabling latency-free recording and reamping. As a recording solution, the device features eight USB channels that can be used to record DI sounds, stereo sounds, or a second instrument simultaneously, while the microphone input offers a 48-volt phantom power supply that can be activated in the global settings. Those who want to take full advantage of the routing and connection options can integrate the D10 digital I/O expansion unit into their setup, and for safe transport, a special Line 6 Helix Stadium backpack offers additional space for other important equipment.
In the spotlight
Agoura amp modelling
Agoura Amp Modelling is the latest digital innovation from Line 6. This modelling engine is built on a detailed simulation of amplifier components, designed to accurately replicate the feel and dynamics of the originals. Individual resistors, tubes, and transformers are modelled to convincingly reproduce saturation, headroom, and compression. A key part of a guitar or bass sound is created through the interaction between the amplifier and the speaker, and in the Stadium, this relationship is emulated by combining impulse responses with the digital impedance of the amplifier, enabling both elements to function as a single system. This allows the sound to respond naturally to different pickups, playing styles, and the volume and tone control settings. For further editing options, users can explore room simulations and a selection of microphones, offering additional options for crafting a personalised sound while maintaining the warmth of authentic amplifiers.
