A whole rig in a single unit

The IK Multimedia TONEX Board packs the company's TONEX ecosystem into a compact yet fully-featured floorboard for guitar and bass. The central feature is its range of AI-captured tone models, up to four of which can be run simultaneously in two independent signal chains. These are complemented by 76 effects pulled from both TONEX and the AmpliTube software, together with up to 12 effect slots and flexible split, mix, and stereo routing options. IK's VIR Cabinet technology is on board to handle cab simulation, and users can additionally load their own impulse responses into the unit. The TONEX Board is operated via its 5" colour touchscreen, rotary encoders, and quartet of footswitches, the latter of which offer a choice of three operating modes: Preset, Scene, and Stomp. IK has also not cut any corners here in terms of connectivity, giving users two instrument inputs, a stereo FX loop, MIDI and expression pedal connections, two XLR and two jack outputs, and a headphone output, making the TONEX Board equally ideal for use as a USB audio interface for making high-quality recordings.

IK Multimedia TONEX Board

Shape and control every sound

Users can create two fully independent signal paths in the IK Multimedia TONEX Board and include both an amp model and a Stomp Tone model in each one, which puts a full four tone models at the user's fingertips. The sounds thus created can then be modified and stored using the 12 effect slots. Splitter and Mixer make series, parallel, and stereo routing possible, and even dual-amp and wet-dry setups can be achieved - so a dedicated tone model can be placed in front of each amp or the same signal routed to two different amps, for example. As mentioned above, the board is controlled via the touchscreen display, five rotary encoders, and four footswitches, with Preset mode providing instant access to complete rigs (1,440 divided into 12 setlists), while Scene mode allows parameters and effect settings to be adjusted within specific presets. Stomp mode in turn allows the player to use the footswitches like individual pedals.

For guitarists with a plan

IK Multimedia has designed the TONEX Board for guitarists and bass players looking for a way to get their entire rig into a single device without having to be restricted to a specific configuration. Musicians who are accustomed to using different amp sounds, require multiple effects chains for the songs they play, or need to switch between different rigs on stage have plenty of options to work with here, and the TONEX Board also represents an interesting option for players using two amps or complex stereo setups. The Scene and Stomp modes mean that minor tweaks no longer require a new preset to be loaded, but it should be noted that the TONEX Board is not ideal for less experienced musicians, since its complexity means that it will take a while for the user to get to grips with it.

About IK Multimedia

IK Multimedia was founded in 1996 in the city of Modena in northern Italy. Its two founders, both musicians and engineers, joined forces with the aim of emulating electronic circuits using computer algorithms. Today, IK Multimedia is a multinational company with seven subsidiaries in Italy, the UK, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Hong Kong, and the USA and exclusively manufactures products which are perfectly tailored to the needs of musicians, true to its motto "Musicians first".

Like a sonic Swiss army knife

Musicians deploying the IK Multimedia TONEX Board in a home recording environment can use it as a complete control centre for their guitar or bass: The signal can be sent via USB straight to the user's computer, and they can prepare and subsequently recall their own custom presets. In a full-size studio, users can in turn integrate the TONEX board into more extensive setups, e.g. with external pedals in its effects loop or different amps hooked up to its different signal chains. This is not to say that the IK Multimedia TONEX Board is purely a studio solution, however: Players can just as effectively combine it with a power amp and speaker cab(s) in a "conventional" rehearsal or performance setup, where the independent signal chains mean that using two cabs or creating a stereo setup is also no problem. A very nice bonus is that the board's Dual Rig mode allows musicians who play two instruments to put together independent setups for each one and play both through the same board, no re-jigging necessary.

Justo lo esperado
zguitar 05.09.2026

Was will man mehr?
