Offers almost every effect there is

The H9 series is Eventide's way of putting a programmable, editable array of effects into a compact pedal – and not just any pedal, but one based on their successful Factor stompboxes. The 52 effect algorithms available here are not just a matter of mere quantity – their quality is outstanding across the board, with a level of sophistication that matches the studio devices that gave Eventide its outstanding reputation. This pedal, with its flexible memory capacity and MIDI compatibility, can handle stereo inputs and outputs; every preset in the memory is assigned to one type of effect, which then makes use of the device's full processing power. Since it was brought to the market in 2013, the Eventide H9 has been a fixture on the pedalboards of countless professional musicians – including names like Peter Frampton, Dweezil Zappa, and Richard Devine.

Less really is more

The Eventide H9 Max gives users access to all of the US manufacturer's years of experience in developing digital algorithms, and that really does mean all. Unlike the standard H9 and the H9 Core, the Max combines all 52 effect algorithms from the entire Factor series: TimeFactor (ten), ModFactor (ten), PitchFactor (ten), and Space (12), as well as ten exclusive effects, including the rich Tricera Chorus, the synth-sounding HotSawz, the CrushStation and Sculpt overdrives, and the UltraTap, with its 64 delay taps. All this is accessible via a pair of footswitches, a central dial, and five LED buttons, with a screen displaying the effect's name and voicing. More in-depth editing options are available in an app (for iOS and Android) that connects to the H9 Max via Bluetooth, or via USB for macOS and Windows. Real-time control of the parameters is also possible via MIDI (or USB MIDI), external footswitches, or an expression pedal.

Maximum quality

The Eventide H9 Max is aimed at guitarists who have a real ear for quality, and who are unlikely to be satisfied with single-function pedals or traditional multi-effect devices. Eventide's algorithms are famous for their phenomenal audio quality, their musical and yet intuitive range of parameters, and their very progressive functionality. The H9 Max has a clear focus on maximising quality – the effects sound so authentic because its full processing power is always in play for each and every one. The individual Factor pedals may offer more detailed settings on their actual physical interfaces, but the H9 Max provides quick access to predefined parameters, all the presets, and selected functions like tap tempo: For example, the hot knob function allows an expression pedal to morph every individual parameter. Its sheer range means the H9 Max is not just for guitarists, but for bassists, keyboard players, and indeed for mixing in the studio, where its stereo capabilities are a huge plus.

About Eventide

The US manufacturer Eventide is one of the pioneers of digital audio technology. The company has existed since the early 1970s and began with developments in the broadcasting sector and digital delay effects. As early as 1974 they unveiled the H910, a pitch shifter revolutionary at the time. The H3000 (1986) was milestone in the field of digital effects and was very popular with professional musicians in recording studios and live performances. The following generations of this model were ever more powerful and culminated in the current flagship H9000. Since 2007, Eventide has also been developing compact pedals, primarily for guitarists and keyboard players. To this day, Eventide's algorithms are considered among the best on the market.

One pedal – a thousand sounds

Guitarists playing live can use the Eventide H9 Max for a whole setlist's worth of sounds, thanks to its built-in predefined programs, which can all be activated on the unit itself or via MIDI. They can then be tweaked in real time using tap tempo, an optional expression pedal, or again via MIDI. All this means that an H9 Max might, in one fell swoop, replace a handful of boutique pedals on a board. At the same time, running multiple H9s might make perfect sense too – either to play several algorithms at once or to insert them at different spots along the signal chain. For example, an overdrive or a pitch shifter needs to be in front of the amp, while time-based effects are better off in the amp's effects loop. In the studio, Eventide's handy editor gives producers all the options they'll ever need to dial in just the sound each track needs – and then save it so the band can use it when they go back out on tour.

Amazing sound
Martintwohands 15.05.2019
I have replaced a bunch of my pedals with this unit. Like a lot guitarists these days I would rather have a small board when I am moving around a lot. This pedal can cover almost any sound and pedal function except for a decent overdrive sound. So I currently use only 2 overdrive pedals, the H9 and a delay pedal. I can get almost any sound I need. All of the algorithms sound exceptional and are highly tweakable with the app.
My initial gripe with this pedal is that you could only use one effect at a time. I like to use chorus delay and reverb together sometimes and thankfully the H9 has a ModEchoVerb patch that can do all three of these effects together at the same time. So I'm very happy with how it sounds. I have an extra delay pedal on my board for when I want to add delay to a tremolo or Leslie sound.
I'm a big fan of octave sounds, while this unit can't get to the same level as the Pog2, It can get quiet close. It can also do the Boss Oc2 sound pretty convincingly. I have been through quite a few autowah/envelope filter pedals too in my time, the H9 can emulate a lot of the popular Autowah sounds and do a few of its own original sounds too.
I use an external foot switch to bank up and down. It makes life easier and I don't have to bend over to change patches, I would see this as a necessary purchase if you are using it live.

Fantastic multi-fx pedal
Tamas 23.11.2018
This product is simply amazing. It includes the widest ranges of effects available on the market, and overall the best algorithms out there. I was blown away by the sound quality and the amount of tweakability through the H9 Control app.

Pros
- Innovative design, clean interface
- Excellent build quality
- Top notch algorithms
- Super wide effect palette

Cons
- It has a center positive plug
- Only one effect can be used at a time (although many algorithms combine multiple effects)

Download the H9 Control !

Bought this...sold it....regretted it immediately...so bought another one.
Basically if you are one of the people who are used to turning knobs to get sounds and get frightened by computerised programming...then you will get frustrated like I did. Until that is, after the second purchase...I got stuck in. its SOOO easy ! very tweakable...easy to save the sounds you want.
I realised that the important thing is to think "how will I use this and what do I need". I now have 10 presets saved that I can scroll through easily for live gigs...and the rest saved on a computer for home use and recording.
The quality of sounds is stunning...
I really dont think you need all the algorithms. Lots are similar. but they are great to have and edit.
If you are in two minds on the h9....go for it. it will replace about 4 or 5 pedals on your board and will sound better.

Excellent

H9 Max is well built and easy to use unit. It has a good depth to it. You can achieve many interesting things quite quick and if needed you can go deeper to find and change details. Only minus is, that its quite impossible to use it without controlling the software thru your tablet or computer. So one should prepare well for live situations. Otherwise, give this beast a signal and it can to miracles. Amazing tool!
