Devil at the Crossroads

Holy Shizzle, did I just make a deal with the devil?! The second I started playing with this mouthpiece I got goosebumps all over. My Keilwerth The New King II and I instantly blended together. It grabbed my hands and all my troubles seemed so far away. Vanished really. The story of Robert Johnson immediately came to mind. Without any effort, playing the high and low register almost simultaneously. How is this possible?! So smooth. And the dynamic range is crazy. It leaves a lot of room to concentrate on the flow of playing, especially when it comes to improvisation. It’s almost like the saxophone is playing itself. It might even be playing me... I tell you, some crazy stuff is going on.

PS
I’m using the Rovner Dark Tenor Sax 2R ligature plus D’Addario Select Jazz Unfiled 3S reeds. What a combination this is, my my.

Good jazz MPC
Jutenorsax 10.06.2021
Good quality of the product. Perfect for a "classic" jazz setting : can do everything around jazz. Easy to play, OK for subtones, high notes, ... Warm and wide sound that you can modify, turn it bright and loud when you push it. The ratio price for quality seems to me very good. Personaly I like to often change my mouthpieces and everytime I go back to this one I enjoy it. It became my reference standard to evaluate my own sound or other mouthpieces. Keep in mind that is not an outstanding MPC that brings you in a unique way but a very good friend whose following you whatever the path :)

Note that the 7 is warmer and wider than the 6 opening.

Great Contender

This is an excellent jazzy sounding very free blowing mouthpiece. So free-blowing that you might want to use your air wisely. With this mouthpiece you can play either bright or dark. Lovely sound with a lot of power.

Just amazing
Diet Sodium 18.12.2025
Very easy blowing all-rounder. I thought that it sounds a bit brighter than I like, but I think the problem was my another mouthpiece (Vandoren V16 metal 7 Medium) which sounds a bit dull (and quieter) comparing to Select Jazz. After some time I realized that I like the sound of Select Jazz much more, it's warm, has just the right amount of buzz and it's easy to play (watch out for squeeks though, it may be a bit too free blowing sometimes).
The only negative is that it's just a little bit tight on the neck cork, but small amount of cork grease easily fixes it.
The quality is top notch thanks to CNC milling.
