The Rode RodeCaster Video S is a digital console designed to function as a central unit for video switching and integrated audio control – with a very compact footprint. It's the logical extension of the RodeCaster Video and can be seen as a more compact variant within the same product family. The Video S is intended for users who require combined video and audio production from a single system without relying on separate dedicated units. In this segment, there are few comparable devices that bring together video switching, broadcast-style audio processing, and integrated wireless reception in one platform. Typically, available solutions focus either on video or on audio, rather than integrating both equally. As a result, achieving a complete production setup has in the past often required the use of multiple devices and a certain level of technical coordination to connect and manage them effectively.

Production and sound engineering in one
The Rode RodeCaster Video S provides three HDMI inputs, a USB-C port for webcams or Rode USB audio devices, and four NDI inputs for network cameras, allowing it to receive multiple video sources and output a combined signal at up to 1080p at 60fps. For live production workflows, up to five scenes can be stored and recalled instantly, while auto-switching can automatically change the active camera based on who is speaking. On the audio side, nine channels are available, including two Neutrik XLR inputs with Revolution preamps, two built-in Rode wireless receivers, and additional USB audio sources. Built-in processing tools such as EQ, compression, and noise reduction via Aphex modules are used to refine the audio signal. Streaming can be sent directly via RTMP to platforms such as YouTube or Twitch, while recordings, including separate source tracks, can be saved to external USB storage.

Less setup – more results
The Rode RodeCaster Video S is aimed at solo creators, video podcasters, and live streamers who want professional results without relying on multi-device setups where a complex signal chains can introduce potential points of failure. It also suits companies that regularly produce interviews, explainer content, or live streams, especially when a streamlined and well-structured workflow is more important than 4K output. It's ideal for setups involving up to four participants, with multi-angle switching and simultaneous streaming. For entry-level podcasting, its feature set may exceed what is typically required, but in more professional production workflows, its depth will soon seem indispensable. When more than four video sources are needed, or when audio setups become highly complex in broadcast environments, a larger system such as the RodeCaster Video may be more appropriate.

Founded in Sydney, Australia in 1990, Rode is a specialist in high-quality studio microphones. With its very first in-house, completely Australian-built model, the NT2 large-diaphragm microphone, the company created a classic which is still produced in its current and enhanced version, the NT2-A. An extensive range of studio and live microphones has also been added, regularly updated, and expanded over the years. These new additions include a variety of professional microphones which are designed for video and mobile applications and can be connected directly to SLR cameras or smartphones.
From production to streaming
The Rode RodeCaster Video S is particularly effective in setups where multiple cameras and microphones are combined into a single output stream. In video podcasting or panel discussions, it functions as a central hub linking guests, cameras and viewers, keeping the workflow unified without the need for external coordination. In corporate environments, it's used for live streaming with PTZ cameras via NDI, while simultaneously delivering output to platforms such as YouTube or internal networks and recording content for later use in media libraries. Educational settings benefit from its ability to switch smoothly between camera feeds and screen sharing, supporting more dynamic presentation formats. It can also support smaller live events such as panel talks or round-table discussions, where features like real-time chroma keying enable background replacement without a physical green screen. For post-production workflows, recorded material can be exported as an EDL and imported directly into DaVinci Resolve, allowing further editing after the live session.

Rode's proprietary features
Revolution Preamps refers to Rode's own preamp circuitry, which features very low noise and high gain. Even demanding dynamic microphones are powered cleanly without the need for an external preamp. Aphex processors are licensed broadcast processors: Aural Exciter makes voices more present and airy, Big Bottom adds low-end foundation, and Compellor automatically balances level differences between different presenters and performers. The RodeCaster App is free desktop software for drag-and-drop scene setup, featuring a full audio mixer and remote control of the device – for anything that would be too tedious to do on the 2" touchscreen.
