Blinded by the lights?
Some effects units seem like their built‑in LEDs aren't there to indicate that the stompbox is active, but to turn the stage into a fully lit airport runway. With a half-dozen pedals on at once, a pedalboard can quickly feel so bright that it must be visible from orbit! Knowing guitarists like they do, the German company RockBoard has come up with another one of their straightforward solutions to help make musicians' lives easier. The RockBoard Defractive Covers seriously tone down the glare of excessively bright pedal LEDs – a simple, practical idea that won't break the bank. They can be popped into place in seconds and can be taken off again just as easily whenever it's time to go back to the day-job at air traffic control.
Stuck on the pedal with you
RockBoard's self‑adhesive LED dampers are quick to install – just peel off the backing strip and stick them in place. It's worth making sure that both the LED and the surrounding surface are as free of dust as possible, so the adhesive holds for the long haul. The LED itself shouldn't exceed an outer diameter of 10mm and a height of 3mm. Anyone with smaller LEDs on their pedals can switch to the Small Defractive Covers instead, with a diameter of 8mm. The pack includes five LED dampers that massively reduce the brightness of an LED indicator, while still allowing its status to be seen clearly.
No need for sunglasses at night
Any guitarist who's long been bothered by overly bright LEDs on their effects pedals will find the RockBoard Defractive Covers to be a professional-looking solution that's also affordable and easy to fit. In the past, musicians often resorted to masking tape, but that isn't exactly a sustainable long-term remedy – plus it tends to leave the pedalboard looking like a low‑budget movie mummy. For musicians who care about a clean, uniform look – and don't want to deal with the glare by wearing sunglasses on stage – a damper pack from RockBoard is a solid, reliable choice.
About RockBoard
RockBoard is part of the Warwick group, which is based in Markneukirchen in Germany's Vogtland region. RockBoard's range focuses on pedalboards, which are available in numerous different designs to suit any application and budget. They are complemented by an extensive range of accessories, from slick patchbays for expanding the boards and high-quality patch cables for loss-free connection through to high-performance power adapters and the QuickMount system for rapid effect changes. In short, RockBoard offers virtually everything that players need to easily set up their own individual pedalboard.
Turn off the bright lights
The RockBoard LED Dampers aren't just handy for pedal fans who are sensitive to bright lights: They're also ideal for productions where the stage show mustn't be disrupted by stray light sources. The RockBoard Defractive Covers take the brightness right down, keeping the stage looking clean – without any pedal LEDs to upset the lighting engineer's plans. If better visibility is an important criterion, RockBoard also offer the decorative, pilot-light style LED Dampers. Either way, this affordable and reversible pedal modification delivers a real practical benefit, going well beyond being a simple gimmick.
