9. Summary

One can say that there is no perfect stick as such. There is only the correct stick for the correct situation, i.e. music, locality and room acoustics - and preferences of the drummer. This is evident, when looking at signature series from leading brands. All top drummers, who endorse - and every stick is different.

As an All rounder one can surely use a 5a in Hickory with oval wood head. Each drummer however should have - and also play - a certain range of sticks in his stick bag. Not only does this accommodate various musical situations but also improves your technique. If you practice for a while with a heavy stick and then transfer to lighter one, you can sometimes surprise yourself.

And here is something more, no drumstick lasts forever. You should buy sticks in packs of three at least. This must not always be expensive signature models. It is perfectly ok to use a cheap stick. You break it – it does not hurt. And sometimes every drummer wants to play heavy – no?
