The session amp with a backing band on board

The JBL BandBox Trio is a compact combo that goes well beyond what a typical practice amp can offer. It combines a multi-input amplifier, a flexible mixer, and an intelligent play-along system in a single device. Thanks to its two XLR/TRS inputs and an additional guitar input, up to three performers can make music together, while Bluetooth playback helps fill out the line-up. A key part of the concept is the integrated AI technology, which analyses streamed music in real time and can reduce or completely mute individual instrument or vocal stems. The result is a flexible backing band built right into the BandBox, allowing the musicians to step into those roles and practise or perform songs intuitively and authentically. With 135 watts of power delivered through a 6.5" woofer and two 1" tweeters, the BandBox Trio is considerably more capable than many typical practice amps, making it equally well-suited to jam sessions and smaller gigs – which can easily take place off the grid thanks to the unit's rechargeable battery. For even more flexibility on the go, the speaker is bundled here with a robust and well-padded bag that's been designed specifically for use with the Trio.

Eight amp models plus effects

When it comes to sound, the JBL BandBox Trio has plenty to offer. Eight amp models cover everything from clean tones and crunch through to powerful distortion. These are complemented by built-in effects including a phaser, chorus, and tremolo. For vocals, a selection of echo and reverb settings is also available, making it easy to explore different sounds without having to hook up an external effects units. The integrated looper allows musicians to record and layer riffs or vocal passages, so the Trio is equally useful for everyday practising, developing new song ideas, and spontaneous performances. Beyond the amp and effects section, the unit includes a range of practical tools such as a metronome, a pitch changer and a tuner. It's all operated either directly from the clear LCD screen on the unit itself or via the JBL One app, which provides additional options for sound adjustment and control of the AI features.

JBL BandBox TRIO, practice amp with multi-channel mixer

Multi-channel setup for jam sessions, duets and more

The JBL BandBox Trio is aimed at musicians looking for a compact and flexible all-in-one solution for practising, performing, jamming, and songwriting. The two XLR/TRS combo inputs and additional Hi-Z guitar input make it possible to connect – for instance – vocals, a guitar, and another instrument at the same time. As a result, the combo isn't limited to solo performers but also suits duos, small acoustic setups, and pickup jam sessions. The powerful speaker system, combined with the comprehensive mixer and EQ section, provides balanced playback of instruments, vocals, and backing tracks from a single portable unit. AI-driven stem separation also means the BandBox Trio will appeal to musicians who enjoy practising along to their favourite songs, adding their own parts to existing tracks, or even recording in a home studio environment.

About JBL

JBL is an American company founded by James B. Lansing in 1946, which first went under the name of Lansing Sound Inc. Following legal disputes with Lansing's previous company, Altec Lansing, Lansing Sound Inc. changed its name first to James B. Lansing Sound Inc., and then finally to JBL in 1949. JBL's current headquarters are based in Los Angeles, USA. The company is well known for its audio system equipment, including loudspeakers and headphones, and is divided into two branches: JBL Consumer, which is dedicated to the consumer sector, and JBL Professional, which is focused on the professional audio sector and offers equipment for studios, live applications, and cinemas. JBL has been a part of Harman International Industries Inc. since 1969, which in 2017 became a subsidiary of the Samsung Group.

For everything from garden parties to street music

The JBL BandBox Trio comes into its own wherever music-making just has to be simple and straightforward. It offers significantly more headroom than a typical practice amp, making it suitable for smaller stages, busking, and outdoor sessions alike. The angled, monitor-style cabinet design helps ensure the music sounds good even when the unit is positioned on the ground. The replaceable battery offers up to ten hours of operating time on a single charge, and can be instantly swapped out for another, allowing the combo to be used flexibly outdoors as well. All this means the BandBox is always ready to go, with the solid shoulder bag included in this bundle further increasing a musician's mobility. Songs can be streamed directly from a smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth, with the stem separation feature removing specific instruments or vocals from the mix. Whether it's supporting a single singer, a duo, or a trio, the BandBox Trio can round out the actual musicians with a flexible virtual backing band, opening up new possibilities for practising at home, jamming together, and even live gigs. For anyone looking for an even more compact and affordable setup, the JBL BandBox Solo offers the same core concept in a smaller and more portable format.
