High-performance DSP sub made in Berlin

The HEDD Bass 12 is a high-output active studio subwoofer designed and assembled in Berlin. Engineered to extend the low-frequency performance of HEDD's MK2 monitor series in larger monitoring environments, it centres on a 12" woofer powered by a robust 700W ICEpower amplifier, delivering controlled low-frequency reproduction from 20Hz to 200Hz. A bass reflex design enhances low-end output, while removable port plugs allow the cabinet to be sealed, tightening bass response and transient precision when required. As part of the HEDD monitoring ecosystem, the Bass 12 integrates an internal DSP platform featuring the company's Lineariser technology, which maintains accurate phase alignment when paired with other MK2 monitors.

DSP and connectivity

The HEDD Bass 12's high-resolution DSP platform operates at 32-bit/96kHz conversion. In addition to balanced analogue XLR inputs, the subwoofer also provides AES/EBU digital input and output, allowing it to integrate easily into both analogue and digital monitoring chains. Two filtered XLR outputs route the high-passed signal to left and right satellite monitors, enabling 2.1 monitoring systems. A comprehensive set of DSP tools allows engineers to adapt the subwoofer to different studio environments, including an adjustable crossover frequency from 40Hz to 200Hz for precise satellite integration, ±6dB input-level control, ±6dB low-shelving filters for low-frequency tuning, and phase-alignment controls. In this configuration, the Bass 12 can achieve a maximum sound pressure level of 115dB SPL.

Flexible low-frequency monitoring

Measuring 60×38×61cm and weighing over 32kg, the HEDD Bass 12 is well suited to medium and large studio environments where extended low-frequency monitoring is essential. When paired with larger MK2 monitors such as the Type 20 MK2 or Type 30 MK2, its Low Frequency Extension mode allows the system to reproduce frequencies down to approximately 16Hz, revealing the deepest sub-bass content with precision. The sealed or ported cabinet configuration, combined with the available DSP filters, allows engineers to adapt the subwoofer's response to the acoustic conditions of the room. This flexibility makes the Bass 12 particularly effective in midfield monitoring systems and larger control rooms where accurate low-frequency reproduction is critical.

About HEDD

The family-owned company HEDD Audio was founded in 2015 in Berlin, where it still manufactures its high-quality studio monitors, subwoofers, and hi-fi speakers, as well as headphones – or HEDDphones. The name HEDD stands for Heinz ElectroDynamic Design, after its founder Klaus Heinz (who also founded ADAM Audio); his son, who himself has a PhD in musicology, is now CEO. The company’s R&D work is based on their decades of experience, and its mission is to deliver outstandingly detailed sound and optimum signal quality. A whole host of renowned DJs and mastering engineers, including DJ Jazzy Jeff and Sascha "Busy" Bühren, swear by HEDD products for their day-to-day work.

System integration with MK2 monitors

The HEDD Bass 12 is designed to complement HEDD's MK2 monitors, from compact models such as the Type 07 MK2 to the flagship Type 30 MK2, forming cohesive satellite-subwoofer monitoring systems that are ideally suited to mixing EDM and other sub-bass heavy musical styles, as well as sound and special effects tracks for film. The integrated DSP ensures phase-coherent integration between the subwoofer and satellites, while adjustable Group Delay Compensation and satellite offset controls allow precise time alignment between speakers. This helps prevent phase cancellation and ensures a seamless transition between the subwoofer's extended low-frequency output and the satellites' midrange, maintaining a tight and accurate stereo image at all times.
