The HEDD Bass 08 is a compact active studio subwoofer designed and assembled in Berlin. Developed to extend the low-frequency performance of HEDD's MK2 monitor series, it centres on an 8" woofer driven by a powerful 300W ICEpower amplifier, delivering controlled low-frequency reproduction from approximately 24Hz up to 200Hz. A bass reflex design augments low-end output, while removable port plugs allow the cabinet to be sealed when tighter bass response and greater transient precision are required. As part of the HEDD monitoring ecosystem, the Bass 08 also integrates an internal DSP platform featuring the company's Lineariser technology, helping maintain accurate phase alignment when used together with compatible MK2 monitors.
The HEDD Bass 08's high-resolution DSP platform operates at 32-bit/96kHz conversion. In addition to balanced analogue XLR inputs, the subwoofer also features an AES/EBU digital input/output, allowing it to integrate easily into both analogue and digital monitoring chains. Two filtered XLR outputs route the high-passed signal to left and right satellite monitors, enabling 2.1 system configurations. A comprehensive set of DSP tools allows engineers to adapt the subwoofer to different studio environments, including an adjustable crossover frequency from 50Hz to 200Hz for precise satellite integration, ±6dB input-level control, and ±6dB low-shelving filters for fine low-frequency tuning. Phase-alignment controls further support accurate system integration. In this configuration, the Bass 08 achieves a maximum SPL of 105dB.
Measuring 40×29×40cm and weighing 17kg, the HEDD Bass 08 is compact enough for small to medium-sized studios while delivering a deep, controlled low-end. When paired with compatible MK2 monitors, its Low Frequency Extension mode drops the system's bottom end to 19Hz, well within the sub-bass register. The sealed or ported cabinet design, combined with the available DSP filters, allows engineers to tailor the subwoofer's response to their acoustic environment. Whether used in nearfield or midfield configurations, the Bass 08 provides the low-frequency clarity and precision needed for recording, mixing, and mastering – without sacrificing space or flexibility.
The family-owned company HEDD Audio was founded in 2015 in Berlin, where it still manufactures its high-quality studio monitors, subwoofers, and hi-fi speakers, as well as headphones – or HEDDphones. The name HEDD stands for Heinz ElectroDynamic Design, after its founder Klaus Heinz (who also founded ADAM Audio); his son, who himself has a PhD in musicology, is now CEO. The company’s R&D work is based on their decades of experience, and its mission is to deliver outstandingly detailed sound and optimum signal quality. A whole host of renowned DJs and mastering engineers, including DJ Jazzy Jeff and Sascha "Busy" Bühren, swear by HEDD products for their day-to-day work.
The Bass 08 is designed to complement HEDD's MK2 monitors, such as the Type 05 MK2 or Type 07 MK2, forming a cohesive 2.1 monitoring system that's ideally suited to mixing EDM and other sub-bass heavy musical styles, as well as sound and special effects tracks for film. The DSP tools ensure phase-coherent integration between the subwoofer and satellites, while adjustable Group Delay Compensation and satellite offset controls allow for precise time alignment between the speakers. This helps prevent phase cancellation and ensures a seamless transition between the subwoofer's low-frequency output and the satellites' midrange, maintaining accurate stereo imaging across the monitoring system.
