Based on the classic AKG C414
Since its release in 1971, the AKG C414 has become an indispensable piece of equipment in recording studios and on the world's biggest stages. In response to this success, AKG developed the C214, a 1" large-diaphragm microphone conceived as an affordable alternative to the renowned C414. With a capsule that combines the legendary dual-capsule system of the C414 with AKG's back-plate technology, the C214 convincingly emulates the sonic character of its bigger brother. Alongside the mic itself, this bundle includes an elasticated shock mount and a windscreen, with a robust AKG case to store the mic and these smaller accessories, as well as a premium K&M mic stand, a 10m mic cable, and a practical pop filter.
High performance
The AKG C214 is a versatile condenser microphone based on the pressure gradient principle, allowing it to capture sound based on the difference in air pressure between two sides of its diaphragm. Its wide dynamic range of 143dB ensures a lifelike representation of transients, and the edge-terminated diaphragm delivers a neutral sound with well-resolved mids and excellent treble presence, so that even the finest nuances of an instrument or voice are captured. Additionally, the switchable low-cut filter (160Hz), together with the integrated capsule suspension, effectively reduces mechanical noise in recordings, with the shock mount further attenuating footfall and handling noise. The mic stand also included in this bundle is made in Germany by König & Meyer, and is as robust as they come.
Great sound at an affordable price
The AKG C214 is a professional large-diaphragm condenser microphone that has all the bases covered: A bright, clear sound, high-quality materials, and outstanding workmanship. Thanks to its excellent price-performance ratio, the C214 is by no means reserved exclusively for professional studio use, either: Musicians, vocalists, and home studio producers will also find the C214 an excellent microphone that is well suited to both a variety of instruments and a wide range of vocal styles. The pop screen included in this bundle will also help singers and speakers in particular, as it effectively filters out unwanted plosive sounds.
About AKG
AKG was founded in Vienna, in 1947, by Dr. Rudolf Goerike and Ernst Pless. After only a few months, the first AKG microphones were already being used for the first time in radio stations and theatres. AKG’s big breakthrough occurred during the early 1950s, due to specific and sophisticated innovations in their field. One example is the first large-diaphragm condenser microphone with remote-controlled, switchable polar pattern (D12) – the first client to acquire them was the BBC in London. AKG is today a world-renowned brand in many different fields. With countless high-class products in its range, such as the well-known C414, the name AKG has always been synonymous of quality and outstanding sound.
Very loud or very quiet?
The AKG C214 is an excellent choice both in the studio and in live settings. The C214 has robust metal housing and dual-sided mesh grille, helping protect the internal electronics and capsule from damage, as well as reducing HF interference. Users can deploy the mic with complete confidence in a variety of acoustic environments, thanks too to all the premium equipment included in this bundle. Whether the order of the day is dynamic ensembles, loud guitar amps, or the delicate attack of an acoustic guitar, with a maximum sound pressure level (SPL) of 156dB and an outstanding dynamic range of 143dB, the C214 will handle both loud and quiet signals equally well.
