A portable slice of Live
Ableton Move is a portable and fully standalone musical instrument, designed for creating ideas anywhere. At its core are four tracks that can function as drum kits, synthesizers, samplers, or full audio tracks, bringing the essence of Ableton Live into a highly portable workflow. Built-in instruments including Drift, Wavetable and Ableton's sampler provide powerful synthesis and sound design capabilities, while the Audio Tracks feature lets producers record, loop, stretch, and manipulate external sounds directly on the device. 32 velocity-sensitive pads with polyphonic aftertouch, nine endless encoders, dedicated function buttons, and a clear OLED display provide hands-on control. More than a sketchpad, Move connects seamlessly with Ableton's wider ecosystem, with projects transferable to Live, Note, and Push for further development via wireless transfer using Ableton Cloud or Move Manager. A built-in speaker, microphone, and rechargeable battery further reinforce its nomadic nature.
A wealth of creative tools
Despite its minimal footprint, Ableton Move is a far more serious instrument than it first appears, offering a production environment on a par with a full DAW. The library of over 1500 sounds and presets was created by Ableton's sound design team and collaborators such as BNYX, DECAP, L.Dre, and Sound Oracle. Up to two effects per track can be chosen from a suite including Saturator, Auto Shift, and Dynamics – as well as newer additions such as Auto Filter and Erosion, with parameters mapped directly to the encoders. Sampling is equally direct: Material can be recorded via the built-in mic, stereo audio input, USB-C audio input, or through internal resampling, and then mapped to pads or pitched into melodic instruments. Audio can also be sliced, time-stretched, and manipulated. The Capture feature preserves unrecorded performances and automation, ensuring spontaneous moments are never lost.
The wandering workstation
Ableton Move is designed for making music wherever inspiration strikes. Its compact footprint fits comfortably on a lap, train table, or crowded studio desk, while the rechargeable battery enables hours of standalone use. The integrated microphone and speaker make spontaneous sampling and playback effortless, for capturing sounds in the street, recording ideas while travelling, or building loops from everyday environments. Powerful sequencing tools, expressive pads with polyphonic aftertouch, arpeggiator functions, and performance features provide a level of creative depth rarely found in such a portable instrument. Whether it's sketching beats, sampling field recordings, or building complete arrangements, its pad grid responds with great subtlety, offering an uncommon level of articulation for a portable device, with integration so intuitive that, with headphones on, it's easy to forget the Move is even portable at all, until the next song is sketched out mid-journey.
About Ableton
Ableton was founded in 1999 in Berlin, by former Native Instruments employees Gerhard Behles and Bernd Roggendorf. Ableton AG now employs around 350 people worldwide and has since expanded to Los Angeles and Tokyo. Ableton is famous for “Live”, their flagship software DAW/sequencer. Live is a market-leading application in the field of music production. Live is performance-oriented, allows real-time processing of samples and synthesizers, instrument-like flexibility for improvisation on stage and also provides renowned music production tools. Ableton is famous and used worldwide for its creative possibilities, in the both sound design and music production.
Part of the Ableton ecosystem
Projects can be transferred wirelessly via Ableton Cloud and Move Manager, making it easy to continue ideas in Note, Live or Push. Link Audio enables direct wireless audio streaming directly from the device, creating new possibilities for collaboration and performance. When connected via USB to a Live DAW, Move can function as a controller and audio interface for Ableton Live, and its pad grid, encoders, and buttons provide integration on a par with the renowned Push controllers. Sketches made with Ableton Move can be quickly developed into full, polished productions: The 16 Pitches function transforms single hits into melodic instruments, and Arpeggiator and Repeat help create evolving patterns in real time. Together, these features position the Ableton Move as both a self-contained instrument and a portable gateway into the wider Ableton ecosystem, with ongoing updates continuing to expand its capabilities.
