Raw look, warm sound

The cymbals in Zultan's Raw series are characterised by their raw, earthy look. The surfaces of the cymbals reveal the natural colour of the B20 bronze: The absence of a clean, polished finish is a very deliberate design decision here. All the Raw cymbals have a dark, dry response that melds perfectly with the rest of the kit – and the band – so they're perfect whenever musicians want warm, unobtrusive cymbal sounds. The cymbals are made in Turkey, the country in which the art of cymbal making is most highly developed and where cymbal smiths who have spent their lives perfecting their craft use traditional methods to create high-quality, beautifully musical instruments.

Zultan 8" Raw Mini Hi-Hat

In tune with the music

Each cymbal in the Zultan Raw series is made from 80% copper and 20% tin – the premium B20 bronze alloy used for really high-end cymbals. Each piece is hand hammered, making every cymbal unique: Great care is taken during final tuning to ensure that the specified tonal tolerances are met. Not lathing the cymbals results, on the one hand, in their appealingly unusual look, on the other hand in a compact, slightly treble-reduced sound with a relatively short sustain. Thanks to these special acoustic characteristics, there is no risk that the cymbals of the Raw series will ever dominate the track they're played on. The miniature 8" Hi-Hat is made up of a thin, perforated top and a rather heavier bottom: This combination results in a trashy, responsive sound that's very different from a traditional hi-hat.

Zultan 8" Raw Mini Hi-Hat

From Jazz to Electro and back again

Drummers from the genres of Pop, Fusion, Funk, and Jazz need dynamic cymbals with a fast response that are capable of blending homogeneously into different settings. The 8“ mini hi-hat from the Raw series fits the bill here, although its sound is rather different from the series' other cymbals, intended as it is as an unusual addition to a drumkit's overall sound. It can be played with sticks, rods, or brushes, and so it's also suitable for unplugged sessions. Fans of hybrid drumming, in which acoustic and electronic sounds are on an equal footing, often prefer cymbals with dry sound characteristics – one of the key features of the Raw series. As such, the 8" Raw Mini Hi-Hat is sure to perform here as well.

About Zultan

To provide traditional craftsmanship at a fair price has been the guiding principle of Zultan ever since it was founded in 2000. The firm’s practice of selling directly to the end customer makes it possible to offer very customer-friendly prices. Nevertheless, the production process for Zultan’s trademark cymbals, which are made mainly in Turkey, is of the highest quality, a fact which has ensured they have also been a fixture in the Thomann range since 2011. The nearly 250 Zultan products cover several cymbal series, catering for all sectors of the music market. Zultan also offers accessories such as bags and drumsticks. Thanks to the use of high-quality materials and manufacturing expertise, Zultan really does offer uncompromising quality at a reasonable price.

Mics love it Raw

The 8" Zultan Raw Mini Hi-Hat works both in the main spot and as an extra, closed-effect hat, bringing a fresh tone that just begs drummers to play around with it. With its dark, trashy vibe, it can give an unplugged set a bit of extra spice, and it's hugely responsive to all sorts of sticks – rods, brushes, the works. That punchy, tight sound also sits nicely in electronic tracks. Installed on the right as a second hat, working in concert with the main one, it gives agile drummers a unique option for some seriously creative Funk or Rock grooves.

Something different
Animale 11.04.2020
I like the sound, the looks, and it's capable for substituting a normal size hi-hat.
But only if it's really an emergency, because it sounds much higher than a conventional size.
The situations in needing a baby hi-hat like this are variable: portability, shortage of space, recording, etc.
It's direct, trashy, fast and sharp
Cuts through anything as well.
Compared to a standard size hi-hat one will also shave more than a kilo weight off from the cymbal bag taking this to rehearsals

I got this for a minimal acoustic set up.
And with a hi-hat added, it allows me to clamp all kinds of goodies from the hi-hat stand alongside the small diameter hi-hat without too much trouble.

Will this be enough for a full gig? Probably not, but if there's no other option and the sounds engineer knows his job, the public won't even notice.

After half a year feeling this hi-hat, I find it a real stick eater b.t.w., so that might be something to consider when choosing sticks.

Nice and crisp.

These H/Hs are great, loud, crispy and sharp. They have a high pitch as you would expect in this size but they cut through the mix pretty well. Only thing, they are wood eaters but if you play mindfully and with care is something you can workaround.

If you are looking for experimenting with smaller hats I would definitely recommend these.

Funky little hats
RobReeve 08.06.2022
Having been playing a many number of years (25 now!) i always gravitated towards smaller but heavier cymbals generally, for feel and sound but also transport as i don't drive...after 10 years of playing pro i went into semi-retirement and started experimenting with different sizes and sounds, and started favouring 10" hats but i found these after looking around, they cut great especially mounted bottom on top, my gigging set up now has no cymbals bigger than 12" with 8" or 10" hats...(i use 14" crashes in my studio) these make great x-hats or main hats...i love em.

Perfekt!
DryVeins 02.08.2021
