The guitar is generally of very good build quality and comes with a good gig bag, which is always a nice touch, and excellent strings. It was still in the factory wrapping and packaging, so the fretboard definitely needed oiling. I also had to make a few adjustments to the bridge to set the action and intonation, but the neck was perfect so no truss rod adjustment was required. The instrument is very well intonated (which is not a common features, even for high-end guitars) and gives you a sense of high reliability. The guitar is very comfortable and well balanced. The neck has a satin finish on the back (very comfortable) and a round C profile. The frets are perfectly rounded, but perhaps a little low. The sound quality is well above the price level. It doesn't have the Gibson's distinct old style sound, but shows its own personality, esp for modern music. However, I think the neck pickup is really amazing! In conclusion, I am very happy for this purchase and I definitely recommend this guitar!

v
A fantastic addition to the collection
vnehrii 15.11.2023
I haven't played the Revstar before but wanted to give it a try and add to my collection because of all the positive reviews. I went with a Standard model, but I might get a Professional version one day. Overall, I think it's a well-balanced instrument that makes you want to dial in that classic, earthy, bluesy rock tone. I enjoyed playing this guitar in pickups position 2 & 4, and it really is something else. The body resonates well, and the guitar is fairly loud even without plugging it in to the amp. The sustain is good too. The first thing that you will notice after picking up the guitar is its weight. She's definitely on the heavier side, but not too heavy. The build quality is good and solid. I took one star out because of a shallow crack in the nut region, mediocre frets polishing job and because the fretboard is drier than you'd expect and requires conditioning. The pickups are noisy, but it's the downside of P90-s. Although they sound great. I will be replacing the factory nut with a TUSQ XL and factory tuners with Gotoh's SG301. Overall, it's a great instrument that I look forward to playing.

WOW

I got mine like a week ago, I´m so much in love with this guitar it´s not even funny...I was an Ibanez type guitar player, so you know thinner freatboard, so at first feel this guitar felt a little chunkier to my hand but in a matter of an hour playing I was really comfortable with it. On top of that it sounds awesome and it´s got plenty of different sounds for you, a freaking gem for the money...the p90´s are great, I was worried about the noise they could make but not a problem...best buy ever!!! And I never was a Yamaha fan, but these guitars are GREAT!!!

P
A quality guitar with quality tone, but I sent it back
Prof Thunder 01.12.2025
I bought the Revstar as I only have teles and strats with single coil pickups and wanted something different. I ended up returning the Revstar as I decided it wasn’t the guitar for me, but this was just because I find the longer Fender type neck to be more comfortable - not because of the quality or tones of the guitar.

Overall, quality was very good. The guitar was well setup out of the box and the pickups (IMO) have a really great sound. The frets were all completely level and very nicely polished. I also think that this guitar looks cool. For the price this guitar is indeed excellent value. It gives a good range of different tones and I found positions 2 and 4 to be the most exciting. It took me some time to get used the rawness of P90’s but this guitar really rocks.

Quality wise, I had a few small issues that I think could have been better but these small issues would not have made me send it back. There was a little bit of black paint on the pickup covers and on the binding of the neck. There were a couple of places on the satin neck where it could have been smoother. If I had kept the guitar I would have used some extremely fine sandpaper on some parts of the neck. The rosewood fretboard was extremely dry. It’s not a big deal though. If I had kept the guitar, I would have changed the strings and oiled the fretboard. I guess the guitar had been stored for quite some time. That’s quite strange as new rosewood fingerboards normally don’t need any oil at all.

So why did I send it back? Well there was nothing wrong with this guitar and the quality is really excellent. As I said, the small imperfections would not have been enough for me to send it back. Actually, it was just that somehow for me, I never felt comfortable with the guitar even though its very ergonomically designed and perfectly balanced. I just couldn’t get used to the shorter neck and somehow the strings felt closer together than on the guitars I own (even though I measured them and that’s not the case). It’s strange with guitars. You just never know until you play it how its going to feel. I love the looks of this guitar and I really wanted to like it but in the end I decided it was going to likely end up as a decoration on the wall and not get much play. I will always reach for the most comfortable guitar, even if inferior in tonality. So I returned it.

In the end I bought a very different guitar, but also a Yamaha from Thnomman. I got the Pacifica Standard Plus. I’ll post my review of that guitar. It was definitely the right one for me.
