A semihollow with a modern twist

Warwick RockBass Star Bass 4 Black Left-Handed, semihollow bass guitar

The Warwick RB Star Bass 4 Left-Handed blends a classic semi-hollow aesthetic with modern hardware and an easy-to-play, medium-scale neck. Its body is crafted from AAA flamed maple (seen here in Warwick's timeless Solid Black High Polish finish), which gives the bass both a striking visual presence and a resonant tonal response. The laminate maple neck, stabilised with its ekanga veneer stringers, complements the wenge fingerboard to produce a crisp, articulate tone with very balanced sustain. Outfitted with passive MEC Vintage single coils, the RB Star Bass 4 gives left-handed bassists access to a wide range of organic tones, from warm-sounding retro basslines to tight, modern grooves. Weighing in at around 3.8kg, it feels invitingly light and well-balanced – ideal for extended rehearsals and long sets on stage.

Control and character

Two passive MEC Vintage single coils give the Warwick Star Bass 4 its defined tonal core, delivering a detailed response with an organic character. A three-way toggle switch allows experienced or experimenting bassists to select neck, bridge, or blended pickup configurations, while dual volume and tone controls enable them to precisely shape their sound's dynamics and timbre single-handedly, or indeed left-handedly. The 813mm scale length (32" medium scale), combined with the warm wenge fingerboard and 21 hard-wearing jumbo frets, ensures smooth playability and accurate intonation. The two-piece Warwick bridge and tailpiece construction makes it easy to adjust the string action, while the Tedur Just-A-Nut III and robust Warwick machine heads help with both stable tuning and clean intonation. Security locks and a gig bag are included, so the Star Bass is stage-ready right out of the box.

For southpaws with a sense of style

The Warwick RB Star Bass 4 is ideal for left-handed bassists looking to combine the unmistakable character of a semihollow instrument with the accessibility of a medium scale fingerboard. It's a perfect match for players who want to hear those classic retro tones but are keen on some modern reliability too – indeed, for all lefties in need of a lightweight yet fully featured instrument for extended sessions and long sets. With its passive electronics, balanced ergonomic profile, and distinctive sound, it's a great option for style-conscious musicians, offering a host of characteristics that solid-body instruments just can't match – and all this in Warwick's familiar quality and at a price point that's refreshingly fair.
