Change the strings, not the cello.

Having bought an intermediate cello with a good bottom end sound, we decided the high end was a little dissapointing so we decided to improve the sound with some new Thomastik Dominant Strings for the A & D.

Having done so, the difference is amazing. The cello now sounds like a much more expensive instrument with great tone at the top and a rich deep bottom end (original strings).

We decided to let the strings "bed in" over a couple of days, gradually increasing the tension until finally achieving tuned pitch, in order not to damage the strings on initial tuning.

Change the strings, not the cello.

Testbericht

Saitenrichtig 16.01.2020

Veranlassung: Beim anstehenden Saitenwechsel den Klang möglichst weiter verbessern. Im Internet findet man in vielen Beschreibungen folgenden Text: "Die DOMINANT Saite hat eine flexiblen, vielfädigen Kunststoffkern und zeichnet sich durch ihre naturdarmähnliche Wärme aus. Der Klang ist weich, obertonreich und klar." Das sollte einen Versuch wert sein.

Getestet: Thomastik Dominant 142 A Cello 4/4 Med., weil es mir vor allem darauf ankam, bei der a-Saite einen weicheren, volleren Klang zu erreichen.

Bewertung: Sehr enttäuschend. Der Klang ist hart, grell, scharf, unangenehm. Die o.g. Beschreibung "obertonreich" kann man wohl bestenfalls als Euphemismus bezeichnen. Die Saite bleibt nicht drauf.

God streng med dejlig lyd

En god streng hvis man vil have en lidt mere mellow lyd.
Lidt "break-in time" da den lige tager et par dage om at sætte sig og blive strukket ud, men bestemt ikke mere end andre nylon core strenge.

Convient parfaitement pour mon violoncelle industriel que je déplace dans toutes les situations. Je le pratique beaucoup au doigt en mode contrebasse mais à l'archet c'est tout aussi satisfaisant pour une utilisation 'non classique'. J'utilise aussi pédales d'effets.

Donc un bon moyen de ne pas dépenser beaucoup d'argent dans les cordes quand on trafique déjà le son comme moi! (avec les économies on peut même s'acheter une nouvelle pédales....)
