A violin based on a masterpiece
Every Scala Vilagio violin is a replica of a legendary instrument, made by equally legendary luthiers: The Lord Wilton violin was built in 1742 by the Italian master Bartolomeo Giuseppe Guarneri, also known als del Gesù. The violin itself came to its historical name through one of its early illustrious owners, Seymour Egerton, the 4th Earl of Wilton. This perhaps most celebrated of all del Gesù's instruments achieved even greater fame when it was used by the renowned virtuoso Yehudi Menuhin, who played it between 1978 and 1999 for countless concerts and recordings. This exact replica has been composed with a wonderful combination of historical accuracy and modern techniques, without changing the instrument's identity. It was built, like all Scala Vilagio products, entirely by hand in a European workshop, using nothing but the highest-quality components. Every Scala Vilagio Guarneri Lord Wilton is a unique one-off, made by hand by the master violinmaker Ryszard Osowski in Franconia. He uses nothing but well-seasoned and carefully selected tonewoods, including slow-growth spruce for the hand-carved soundboard and richly quilted maple for the body. Both the top and the single-piece back are painstaking copies of the original, with details like the rib mould and hand-carved scroll also echoing the Cremonese tradition. The oil lacquer, also handmade by Osowski, contains Baltic amber and gives this masterpiece its rich reddish brown colour. The result of these exquisite ingredients and beautiful craftsmanship is a deep, powerful sound with an extraordinary resonance.
