Blinded by the lights?

Some effects units seem like their built‑in LEDs aren't there to indicate that the stompbox is active, but to turn the stage into a fully lit airport runway. With a half-dozen pedals on at once, a pedalboard can quickly feel so bright that it must be visible from orbit! Knowing guitarists like they do, the German company RockBoard has come up with another one of their straightforward solutions to help make musicians' lives easier. The RockBoard LED Dampers tone down the glare of excessively bright pedal LEDs in a pleasantly subtle way – a simple, practical idea that won't break the bank. They snap into place in seconds and can be taken off again just as easily whenever it's time to go back to the day-job at air traffic control.

Stuck on the pedal with you

RockBoard's self‑adhesive LED dampers are quick to install – just peel off the backing strip and stick them in place. It's worth making sure that both the LED and the surrounding surface are as free of dust as possible, so the adhesive holds for the long haul. The LED itself shouldn't exceed an outer diameter of 8mm and a height of 3mm. Anyone with larger LEDs on their pedals can go for the Large version instead, with a diameter of 10mm. The pack includes five LED dampers in a nice amp‑style pilot‑light look, adding a bit of visual flair to their practical benefits.

No need for sunglasses at night

Any guitarist who's long been bothered by overly bright LEDs on their effects pedals will find the RockBoard LED Dampers to be a professional-looking solution that's also affordable and easy to fit. In the past, musicians often resorted to masking tape, but that isn't exactly a sustainable long-term remedy – plus it tends to leave the pedalboard looking like a low‑budget movie mummy. For musicians who care about a clean, uniform look – and don't want to deal with the glare by wearing sunglasses on stage – the damper pack from RockBoard is a solid, reliable choice.

About RockBoard

RockBoard is part of the Warwick group, which is based in Markneukirchen in Germany's Vogtland region. RockBoard's range focuses on pedalboards, which are available in numerous different designs to suit any application and budget. They are complemented by an extensive range of accessories, from slick patchbays for expanding the boards and high-quality patch cables for loss-free connection through to high-performance power adapters and the QuickMount system for rapid effect changes. In short, RockBoard offers virtually everything that players need to easily set up their own individual pedalboard.

No more Mr. Brightside

The RockBoard LED Dampers aren't just handy for pedal fans who are sensitive to bright lights: They're also ideal for productions where the stage show mustn't be disrupted by stray light sources. That being said, with this standard version, enough light still gets through for the pedals to remain clearly visible from a distance. If an even softer glow is the goal, the RockBoard Damper Defractive Covers should be used instead – they take the brightness down another notch and keep the stage looking clean, without any pedal LEDs upsetting the lighting engineer's plans. Ultimately, this affordable and reversible pedal modification delivers a real practical benefit, going well beyond being a simple gimmick.

Yep. It's a little sticky faceted cover that goes over your bright pedal LEDs.
The plastic is very slightly smoked to reduce the brightness, and overall it works well.
The adhesive used is good enough when the pedals live on a board, but if you carried them loose in your gig bag the damper may get knocked off.
I would have liked the base of the damper to be made from the same clear plastic so you can see more of the light.
As it is the silver base blocks a lot of the light from anything other that stood dead centre over the pedal. Having some light cast off to the sides would be a help.

As it is though, these diffuse the light really well, they also look good too.
I have them installed on a Vemuram Rage E and RockFabrik Mind Abuse. Both pedals have searing LEDs bit are nicely tamed by these dampers.
I do think in a lot of cases the plain white 'bubble' dampers would be just as good, if not better.
These just look a bit flashier, but do the same job and cost a bit more.

I wish I knew about these years ago

These are a total game changer for my pedalboard. Some of my LEDs are *super* bright and basically blinding, so using these self-adhesive dimmers/dampers on those pedals is amazing. They're small enough and seamless enough to look like it's always been there and doesn't totally kill the look for your pedals. Highly recommended if you have pedals like a MXR 10 band EQ, Fender ABY switch, or something like a Walrus Voyager OD pedal with super bright LEDs!

Good purchase

Reduces overly bright LEDs to the soft glow of a Boss pedal. Beautiful design, but on two of the five pieces I received the bottom isn't completely level, causing light to leak out from underneath. A minor complaint at this price and will buy again.

Nice to dull down some bright LEDs on some of my pedals.
The adhesive on the backing is not that great though.
