Reference subwoofer system
The Quested SB10R combines a dedicated studio subwoofer cabinet with the Quested SBC250 rack-mount power amplifier in a single reference monitoring system, delivering accurate low-frequency reproduction extending down to 25Hz for professional recording studios and permanent home cinema installations alike. Unlike conventional active subwoofers, the matched SBC250 amplifier is housed in a separate 1U 19" rack unit, keeping the electronics isolated from the low-frequency vibrations generated by the cabinet while allowing calibration and day-to-day adjustment directly from the listening position. The amplifier provides a variable crossover filter, gain control, phase adjustment, polarity switching, output level metering, and bypass functions for flexible integration into virtually any monitoring setup.

Driver, cabinet, and amplifier
The SB10R's 254mm (10") long-throw cast-chassis driver is housed in a reflex-loaded cabinet carefully tuned to the enclosure, with the bass reflex port positioned to the left of the driver on the front baffle. Driven by the separate SBC250 amplifier, the system delivers over 250W RMS continuous power and reaches a maximum continuous output of 116dB SPL across its 25Hz-200Hz operating range. Two rear-panel binding posts connect the cabinet to the SBC250 via a separately available speaker cable. The amplifier's electronically balanced XLR and ¼" jack inputs present a 10kOhm input impedance and incorporate RF filtering to suppress unwanted interference, ensuring reliable operation in demanding studio environments.
Control and integration
The SBC250 keeps every adjustment within easy reach from the equipment rack, allowing the subwoofer to be calibrated without repeatedly accessing the cabinet itself. The crossover frequency is continuously adjustable from 40Hz to 135Hz, while gain can be set between +6dBu and -14dBu to match virtually any monitoring chain. Phase is adjustable through 180°, polarity can be inverted independently, and the bypass function allows instant switching between two and three-way monitoring configurations, making it easy to compare mixes with and without low-frequency reinforcement or to optimise an LFE channel in multichannel systems. All controls are recessed and screwdriver-adjusted to prevent accidental changes once calibration has been completed.

The Quested S series
Designed as part of Quested's S-series monitoring ecosystem, the SB10R forms the low-frequency foundation of a complete professional monitoring system built from matched components. A single subwoofer provides bass management for a stereo pair of full-range monitors, while two SB10R units can be positioned directly beneath compatible Quested loudspeakers using the integrated mounting points on either side of the cabinet. This modular approach increases low-frequency output, improves system headroom, and allows larger monitoring systems to be assembled without compromising accuracy or installation flexibility.

About Quested Monitoring Systems
Founded in 1985 by Roger Quested, Quested Monitoring Systems emerged from Roger’s dissatisfaction with the monitoring systems available while working on albums for artists such as Pink Floyd, Cat Stevens, and The Kinks during the 1960s. Placement and installation
The SB10R can be positioned either horizontally or vertically to suit the studio layout, although floor placement is generally recommended. Optional spike absorbers help isolate the cabinet from structural vibration, reducing unwanted low-frequency colouration caused by floor coupling. Corner placement should be avoided wherever possible, as it encourages standing waves that create low-frequency peaks and cancellations, compromising monitoring accuracy. An optional protective grille is available for installations requiring additional driver protection. Although the SBC250 allows the low-pass filter to be bypassed, Quested advises against doing so, as it may damage the SB10R's drive unit.
