Bought this as a present and have decided instead to return it. Bamboo seemed a really nice eco-friendly option, but I wouldn't buy a bamboo uke or guitar again after this. The ukulele arrived with scratches on under the paintwork - nothing major, but not what you expect on a new instrument. Checking it a week later, just before gifting it, I found the back of the neck surface was peeling, right where you'd normally position your thumb. I'm not sure if it is the bamboo, or just the paint, but it will make a mess when it comes off completely and made me think the quality is just not there.
I did tune the uke and it felt okay to play. There was a lot of buzzing off the lower strings but I'm not a bass player, and don't know how much of that is expected. It may have been as much my playing style as the instrument. I'm not a fan of the rubbery strings either. The acoustic sound is no louder than an electric bass without the amp. I didn't plug it in so can't speak for overall sound quality.
This isn't the quality I expect from a brand like Ortega, and certainly not for the price paid. This bass ukulele looks great, but that's about all I can say that's positive.
