Mixstream Pro Go - upgrade from iDJ pro
Short Review: Numark Mixstream Pro (after years using the iDJ Pro)
After using the Numark iDJ Pro for years, I recently switched to the Mixstream Pro (Go variant) and overall I’m impressed. The unit feels solid, portable, and very capable for mobile and club gigs.
The built-in screen is obviously smaller than the large iPad on the iDJ Pro, but it’s responsive and works well for browsing tracks, waveforms, and effects. The effects section is decent with good sound quality — nothing groundbreaking, but reliable and musical.
Where the Mixstream Pro falls short for me compared to the iDJ Pro:
• A lot of the buttons aren’t illuminated, which makes locating them quickly in darker DJ booths more difficult.
• The iDJ Pro’s rotary volume faders with many surrounding LED rings gave fantastic visual feedback and more precise control. On the Mixstream, the channel level LED meters are quite short, and the speed adjust strips (although you tweak the resolution) are small so don’t feel as precise . Especially the metering, you have to rely more on your ears, which isn’t always ideal in clubs with inconsistent monitoring.
In these areas i feel the iDJ Pro was still the stronger unit in terms of visual feedback and ergonomic control in low-light situations. That said, the Mixstream Pro with its built in screen and speakers is a very good controller — compact, modern, and perfectly usable. Numark just could have improved the illumination, meter size, and volume metering feedback to make it a truly awesome upgrade.
