Wireless audio for studio monitors

The Kali Audio MV-BT – short for Mountain View Bluetooth – is a compact Bluetooth input module designed to enable wireless audio transmission in professional studio environments and beyond. Whether used to quickly reference a mix from a smartphone, add wireless playback to a monitoring setup, or share Bluetooth connectivity with other sound systems, the MV-BT eliminates the need for cumbersome adapters. Featuring balanced XLR and ¼" TRS outputs, it connects directly to studio monitors, mixers, or PA speakers, while the aptX codec delivers CD-quality (16-bit/44.1kHz) Bluetooth audio with minimal latency. A large, weighted volume knob enables precise level adjustments, and an additional 3.5mm AUX input provides wired connectivity for non-Bluetooth sources. Designed for both studio professionals and audio enthusiasts, the MV-BT is a simple yet powerful solution for integrating reliable wireless connectivity into any professional or home audio setup.

Bluetooth input, balanced outputs

Unlike typical consumer Bluetooth receivers, the MV-BT delivers studio-quality audio at its output thanks to the balanced connections, which minimise interference and maintain a clean signal. The aptX codec provides excellent low-latency audio transmission, suitable for accurate monitoring and playback. The unit's LED-lit volume dial provides a clear view of output levels, allowing quick and precise adjustments. However, when used directly with studio monitors, a slight background hiss may be noticeable at low volumes. This issue disappears when the signal is routed through an audio interface or mixer, which is the preferred setup for critical listening tasks.

A simple yet powerful solution

On the front of the MV‑BT, alongside a Kali logo that doubles as the pairing button, there's a very ergonomic volume control that adjusts the output level. The LED display surrounding the control shows the selected volume. The MV‑BT receives audio via Bluetooth from iOS devices using the AAC codec; the aptX codec is used for all other Bluetooth‑enabled devices, enabling audio to be transmitted via Bluetooth in CD quality. The received audio signal is then passed on via either balanced TRS or XLR outputs to speakers, a mixer, an audio interface, or any other connection point.

Too good to be true
MesaB 24.12.2020
I needed a solution to control my old Adam P33 monitors, which are now used to listen to the music in the living room. Kali Audio MV-BT seemed like ideal solution because of its bluetooth connectivity and simplicity of use.
Unfortunately this unit is so noisy that can not be used at low volumes. The moment you play something from the connected device there is a loud unpleasant hiss that stops only when you stop playback. I tried different cables, different devices (mobile phones, pc's) but the hiss noise is always there. It does not increase with the volume but stays at the same level as you increase it. Eventually it becomes less audible but than you need to listen to very very loud music to mask the noise.
I will send this unit back. It is unusable at home, let alone in a studio. It could work maybe on some some low power speakers, but on the 2x350W active studio monitors, it's way to noisy. Sorry Kali Audio, this unit is below consumer product level quality. Could not imagine it in professional use.

I can hear the self noise of MV-BT from 4,5 meters away from my monitors. Pretty disappointing for something meant to be used in studio.

Don't buy this unit
DmitrijSilov 16.04.2022
It may seam like pro unit from description and price level, but it isn't. While it does the Bluetooth job, this unit will always play noticeable hiss during playback and sometimes would hiss even without playback. Very disappointing especially for the price level.

And another small negative detail:
If you powerdown the unit, it won't remember the loudness level so you have to dial it again when you power it up. It's not a big deal if you keep your audio set-up always powered, but is a trouble if you e.g. turn everything off in you studio.
And "cool" blue light is not regulated, so this doesn't suit for bedroom setup.
