Swampy and sinister!
The Ghost 23.07.2013
I bought this to complement a recently purchased lap steel guitar. I had initially tried to play it with a standard guitar Slide both steel and Glass which does work but is extremely awkward and falls of at either end of the six strings as they aren’t the width of the strings. When I received this product I was amazed how heavy it was. It was so heavy it had broken the plastic holder in the case it came in when it arrived, which incidently is a good addition for storage. When I placed it on the strings and got used to the new approach of holding it I was amazed at just how dark, swampy and sinister the weight can make the headstock end of the lap steel sound. Very pleased with this purchase already. It also is useful up the neck for a brighter country style sound.
I didn't give this full marks as i feel the Tonebars with additional grips are better and easier to use, but also 3 times as dear.

Harley Benton tonebar

I was fortunate enough to receive a pedal steel guutar rrcently. Itnlooked great, but I needed a bar to use. As I didn't know what was available, I viewed the Thomann website to see what I coukd buy.

There were quite a few different styles to choose trom. I noticed the Harley Benton tonebar and had a look at the specification. It comes in a realli nice little wood effect presentation box. The tonebar itself has a nice, solid feel due to it's solid condtruction. The weight means it sits easily on the strings without the need to press hard onto the string surface. The chrome surface is vety well applied, redulting inna super smooth feel.

The rounded "bullet end" style makes for very eady maneuvering across yhe strings. This is fantastic value for money. Go on, treat yourself!

Great price

Perfect for lap steel guitar. If you are a beginner with lap steel and you don't want to spend hundreds on a tone bar, this is for you.

Simple and Solid

Solid tonebar. Cheapest I could find by some way. Not a steel player by any means, but it's heavy, smooth and seems to do the job right.

Very good value, but....

It could do with a ridge to rest ones hand against as it does get a little tiring squeezing onto it all the time but I'm sure it's something I'll get used to. Aside from that, this is crazy cheap compared to other similar parts on offer here.

One thing worthy of note, though, I bought this to go with the Harley Benton Slider II and didn't actually realize that one came with the guitar, anyway, so now I have 2 ! Still, spares are always handy and at this price I don't begrudge it enough to return it so I'm keeping it until I lose the other one ;-)

Heavy, smooth and with a good tone
Anonymous 23.04.2014
This tone bar is really good quality for the price, especially when compared to similar offerings from other brands. It is presented in a nice little box, is beautifully smooth and of good weight.
It enables me to get nicely sustaining notes and it also easily spans all six strings for chords.
The tubular shape with no hand grip can be taxing on the muscles of the hand in the beginning but it is just a question of practice.
I would say that, if you want to play a lot of individual noting and lift the bar off of the strings alot, perhaps consider another style but for what I do - songs on electric lap steel - it is perfect.

I found the tonebar very hard to hold in my hand. It had the right weight but it's not as good as the tonebars that has a grip for you to hold in your hand.
