Great 8 string with weak pickups
GMiser 21.08.2023
First of all, a great guitar with an excellent setup right out of the box, just fine tuned it to my personal taste. Good fretwork with no rough edges, frets a bit rough, you could wait for them to wear off or just polish them.

Finish near perfect, just 2 spots on the neck joint. The satin finish, especially on the neck, is great and very comfortable to play. Btw what a beautiful neck! The amaranth fretboard is rather greyish, looks and feels good.

The locking tuners could be one of the parts to be upgraded, they do their job, the guitar is very stable, but they are not really smooth. Not a big complaint though.

The pickups are the only real issue I have with the guitar. They sound muddy and noisy, an awful combination for an 8 string. The next issue, try to find a replacement (in the case of this guitar, you need the 9-string variant, or you'll need to do some wood work), EMG 909, Fishman Fluence 9, Lundgreen 9 are some of the options, but none of those are available in Europe, here a great thank you to the Thomann guitar department, a custom order, some great advice and I got the EMG 909x PU’s with a very competitive price and only after 2 months instead of the 6 months expected when ordered.

Highlights: That neck is just fantastic, great QC for the price
Lowlights: The pickups

Vaya sorpresa!
Chrissssssss 16.08.2022

Almost perfect but OMG!!!
N1ck Name 17.02.2023
I received this guitar at the beginning of the week, delivered perfectly by UPS, perfectly packaged by Thomann (Harley Benton box in Thomann box).

The first thing that caught my eye was the color of the guitar, a black stain that appears more brown than black in the photo online.
Everything else was 100% the same as in the pictures. The finish is perfect except for a small black spot on the side of the neck, against the fretboard.
That is a pity, but not reason enough to return this guitar.

This guitar plays perfectly right out of the box! Perfectly setup! OMG ! Plays fantastic, I have the greatest difficulty not to pick up the guitar and play!
I only had to adjust the intonation a bit, but everything else was tiptop! (I tuned the guitar in F)

The tuning pegs are not perfect but quite good, I've had much worse, so that's not too bad.
The pickups are indeed a bit muddy in sound, but they are certainly usable if you want to play some doom, if you really want to djent it is recommended
to look for other pickups (active for more definition and clarity)

The only thing that I really regret is the wood used for the body, basswood, which is very easy to work with because it is a soft wood and therefore extra sensitive
for dents and damage! (Thomann: ash wood is not that expensive!)

I'm not sure because I can't read it anywhere, but it would be an extra shame if the frets weren't steel, precisely because the guitar plays so nicely that you play it a lot
and therefore wear out the frets faster.

In short:

1) it's a rock solid guitar that is perfectly tuned and setup out of the box !!!!

2) reasonably good hardware has been used; the (locking) tuners hold the tuning reasonably well, the bridge is good and can be easily adjusted
the guitar comes with a graphite comb, fanned frets for more playing comfort, neck through body design, etc (the features on the product page)

3) for thomann : for a small increase in price better wood for the body (and steel frets) so that it is worth the effort in the long term to upgrade the guitar effectively (!)
and a slightly larger electronics cavity so that it is slightly easier to build in an active system. (9v battery will be very tight with the threeway switch)

High end specs for a GREAT price
billyamann 01.01.2026
After being impressed by a kit guitar from Harley Benton and Thomann I decided that I would give this a shot. And damn, I am glad I did.

First of all, echoing many of the already raving reviews of this axe, out of the box this guitar was impressive. Though after a brief play the stock strings were removed and I got to work on polishing frets and setting up the guitar with heavier guage strings. So my memory of the out of the box feel is a little hazy to say the least.

The spec sheet of this guitar is what really drew me in, all of the right things, neck through, locking tuners etc etc. As for the basswood body, I don't throw my guitars around, so not too worried there. The lack of stainless steel frets also is a moot point given the price point.

Dialling in the setup was absolute childs play. Once done this thing is a dream.

One note on the hardware: anything heavier than a 72 guage requires the wound part of the string to be stripped before threading into the tuner. Ask me how I know.

I have rated the quality at a 5*, but bare in mind I am considering the price point. There are a couple things that would drop the rating down had it been a more expensive guitar. My particular guitar looks to have a couple of filled spots around the side dots where there potentially were a couple of mistakes made. Again, the shear cost of this guitar mean you can't expect custom shop level of craftsmanship.

INSANELY good for the price
saxon fox 03.04.2025
pickups are high output, very nice tone clean and distorted, with a very noticeable tone difference between neck and bridge, everything came fully set up, didn't have to change anything out of the box, tuners are great, thing looks sick as hell, the knobs feel so tight and satisfying to turn, the volume a bit tighter, giving more control on the volume, while the tone is a bit looser, making it easier to turn up and down quickly, the bridge is stable, well drilled, and completely aligned, frets ae in perfect shape, no dead spots or buzz, perfect action, only problem i have with it is that the head could use a couple spring trees, as the 6-8 strings have to travel pretty far from nut to tuners, this thing feels better than some 8 strings I've played that are well over a grand, not only worth it for a beginner but even professionals as well, easily beats the Ibanez and Schecter beginner and entry level 8 strings

Amazing value 8-string multiscale guitar
CarmelGG 11.01.2026
For the price, this guitar is honestly impressive. The multiscale design (25.5"–27") makes the low strings tight and clear, even with very low tunings, while the higher strings stay comfortable to play. The neck feels good in the hand and doesn’t feel bulky for an 8-string.
The pickups are better than expected for this price range – great for modern metal, djent, and heavy riffs. Clean tones are decent as well, though this guitar clearly shines with high-gain sounds. Tuning stability is solid once properly set up.
Build quality is good overall. The finish looks nice, frets are acceptable, and nothing feels cheap. A setup is recommended out of the box, but that’s expected at this price point.
Overall, this is an excellent entry into 8-string and multiscale guitars and offers insane value for money. Highly recommended for metal players on a budget.
