Serious studio upgrade
Like many dads of my generation, I’ve suddenly found myself with an empty nest.
You don’t realize how much time you spend supporting them physically and emotionally, until they’ve upped and gone to Uni. You know it’s going to happen but nothing prepares you for that feeling of being very much alone.
What is my function now? What do I work on now? What was I up to before parenthood?
I’ve tinkered around over the years with dawless jam set ups but it was always something fleeting and non permanent. So after a few sad afternoons I felt that it was time to level up my music production gear, if only to escape the void.
In comes the Glorious Vintage Music Station. And Glorious, indeed it is, in every aspect.
Two hours of patient tinkering and I had it fully mounted, placed in the first third of the study. On first glance, it reminded me of an antique writing desk my father had when we lived in Maidstone in the early 80’s.
I sat back on the couch and stared at it for a good while. Glorious, I thought.
For me the ability to work standing up is priceless. All those hours lost sitting cramped in a chair fiddling with the filter cut off. Now I can move my bones to the beat and step back to get a fresh perspective on the session, whenever I feel the need.
At present I’m populating the GVMS with all manner of sound gear; patch cables here, fx pedals and headphones there. Plenty of cubby hole space for my hard gleaned junk, lyric diaries and mind maps.
Did I mention that all power cabling is now out of sight? The missus is tickled pink.
Table top real estate is no longer a problem and fully adaptable to my needs. Right now I’ve got my Crave, the Edge, RD 6 and Pro VS all patched in to my Flow 8 and still have space for a 2i Scarlett and MacBook, to tape the live stream on.
My pipe dream of the illusive light switch set up is becoming a reality. But I’m not in a rush, I need to savor this moment; The day I finally invested in my subtle art and picked studio furniture that demands me to make my best work on it, I hope, for years to come.

Excellent
Fits nicely into my small room amd accommodates all what I need. Very sturdy and it’s fantastic to be able to use the desk at different heights. I prefer to stand so that my sessions feel more like a performance
