Professional audio back-up system

The Fretronics RSW Auto Redundancy System is designed to enable reliable, uninterrupted live performances for guitarists, bassists, keyboard players, and all other musicians and stage technicians who use amp modelling. The device functions as a hub that links two modelling systems, with one serving as a backup: If the main system malfunctions, the RSW switches to the backup modeller automatically and within milliseconds. In addition to the instruments or audio sources connected to it, the device can also manage signals from combo jacks, line‑level outputs, and MIDI data in order to maintain functions such as the synchronisation of preset changes. Thanks to its robust design and the clear options it gives users for handling complex audio paths, the Fretronics RSW Auto Redundancy System provides a stable foundation for professional stage and production environments that demand maximum operational reliability.

Zero downtime on tour

In contemporary touring and festival productions, amp modellers serve not only to replace a preamp, power amp, and speaker cabinet, but often also function as a DI source, effects section, and central routing module: As such, their fail-safe operation is absolutely mission-critical. The Fretronics RSW delivers the necessary reliability by continuously monitoring the output signal and, in the event of a software crash or problems with the power supply, automatically switching to the backup system without any audible interruption. The front panel also allows users to manually switch between the A and B modellers, for example during soundchecks or for quick comparisons. With a height of just one rack unit, the RSW can be integrated into any rack setup, saving space and making things more organised – reinforced rack ears and a robust build also make the unit fully suitable for touring.

Instantly and inaudibly

Similarly, all the other components of the Fretronics RSW Auto Redundancy System have been chosen with maximum operational reliability in mind. The audio paths pass through a transformer, and are therefore fully galvanically isolated, effectively protecting them against voltage differences, digital noise, and RF interference. This helps to prevent ground loops, and also means that, in the event of a fault, the RSW can switch to the backup instantly and inaudibly. If ground loops do still occur, not impossible in complex FOH environments, Pin 1 of the master outputs can be disconnected using a precisely implemented ground/lift switch. For electrical safety, the RSW uses an integrated 10A circuit breaker, located directly next to the power switch on the front panel, which protects both the device itself and the integrated power supplies of the modellers.

Clearly structured connection section

The rear panel of the Fretronics RSW Auto Redundancy System offers a clearly structured connection section that reliably routes all of a modelling setup's crucial signals. A send-and-return path enables the precise detection of the test‑tone signal, while MIDI inputs and outputs pass the MIDI signal to both amp modellers in parallel. Balanced outputs are also available for the inputs of the two modelling systems. A versatile passive A/B section functions as outputs 3 and 4 of the modellers and can be used either for master outputs or for setting up an effects chain – for example in combination with a pedalboard. In addition, an adjustable time delay of between 100ms and two seconds can be activated to compensate for preset changes, bridging short signal gaps without activating the device's automatic switch.

About Fretronics

The Scottish company Fretronics is based in Glasgow and provides reliable, robust solutions for professional audio technology. They started out in 2015 repairing and modifying guitar electronics and other equipment for local musicians, with the company's founder building a reputation for practical, ready‑to‑use solutions. This evolved in 2018 into an independent workshop for complex repairs for touring bands, alongside a warranty service for internationally recognised brands. In 2025, the first Fretronics-brand product was introduced – the RSW Auto Redundancy System, which is at once technically innovative and exceptionally reliable. Today, Fretronics has grown into a global brand trusted by renowned artists, studios, and production companies that cannot afford equipment failures.

Easy reliability

To get the Fretronics RSW Auto Redundancy System up and running, the tone send of the RSW itself must first be connected to the backup input of the second amp modeller. The tone return is then routed back into the device from the corresponding backup output of the modeller. Guitarists or stage techs can simply use standard instrument cables here to carry the pre-defined 10dBV test tone. Then, the presets of the connected modeller have to be configured so that the assigned input is linked to the corresponding output; this signal chain must be entirely free of effects and any further signal processing. If the status LED lights up orange, the output level of the modeller is too high and should be adjusted accordingly. Additional status LEDs provide constant information about the status of the connected modelling systems and their power supply. Because it's so simple to install and intuitive to monitor, the RSW delivers the guaranteed operational reliability that modern stage and touring rigs require.
