Awesome compressor!
A very simply designed and set up effect, and thus very easy to use. Level knob is essentially for your volume control. Tone this has an effect on your low/high end frequencies. When rolled up high you can hear more high end frequencies and it gives a clicking sound that feels like you can hear the contact with the string. Attack / Sustain - these two knobs I use in co-operation to achieve various sounds. With the sustain knob on a low setting the pedal acts as a limiter, while rolling it up high increases sustain and the length the effect lasts for. Meanwhile I adjust the attack value depending on whether I'm playing clean / overdriven. When at a low value the pedal produces a crisper and cleaner sound, while it allows more Drive when rolled up high.

Narrow range
Boosting lower signals very often is not good idea.
It's a "must have" product. However - you have to make sure you know what you are doing and how to use it.

Boss CS-3 review
I have this pedal for the last few weeks. It is yet again another great product from boss with its rigid and functional design. I use this pedal for live acoustic performance's and im still getting to grips with its functions even after a couple of weeks. There is no doubt it is quite a useful tool but you just need to know how to use the pedal and I have and will spend a lot of time ajusting it to get it just right. I do find it very useful when I am playing guitar and finger picking, and then limiting when strumming hard. A good little pedal with lots of options available. Its a four star pedal for me.

Great all round compressor
Typical Boss performance here - sturdy unit, reliable and for a decent price
may not have all the bells and whistles of some compressors out there but great for gigging

Good compressor
Works quite well, but could have been a little less hard. Works better in front of the amp than in the effects loop (it tends to compress too much here).

Compressor with noises
I needed a compressor, so i decided to buy a not to expensive one.
The Boss CS-3 is built like a tank like all Boss pedals. It does its job. Nothing more, nothing less.
The controls are self self-explanatory.
Level - controls the level of the signal
Tone - controls the frequency of the signal
Attack - The more you turn this knob clockwise, the more attack you have in your sound.
Sustain - This one controls the amount of sustain. I don't know if it is technically possible to turn out the noise after turning the sustain clockwise. But there is a lot of noise if you turn on the sustain of the CS-3.
If you just want to have a compressor which adjust the level of your guitar/bass, you should give this one a try.
But i wouldn't recommend it if you are interested in the sustain feature because the noise is very annoying.

Boss CS3
Everything fine but pedal is little noisy.I have noiseless pickups and quality cables but pedal is still noisy when turning volume up.Everything else is good,nice boost and compression!Using it as first pedal in chain!
