Good Book to understand the basics

Personally I find that this book I great at explaining more basic concepts such as the different modes or chord extensions. But of course it still won't do as good a job at explaining music theory as a teacher will do. In the end I would definitely recommend this for a beginner as it provides a good basic idea of what they are to expect in more complicated theory.
