Ero in cerca di una sordina e avevo provato quindi in ebano ma non mi aveva particolarmente convinto questa tantomeno è stata una scelta di ripiego solo per un motivo economico ma devo dire che di per sé un buon metodo per far risuonare di meno il contrabbasso come mi è stato suggerito dal mio maestro è cercare di tappare i buchi del contrappasso e eventualmente di suonare con una coperta sul body del contrappasso per ridurre al minimo il fastidio nel caso si suoni in condomini o in luoghi al di fuori della scuola di musica. Per il resto sordine non fanno altro che rendere il suono leggermente più ovattato ma di sordo non c'è proprio nulla, non aspettatevi troppa riduzione del suono. Al contrario può rivelarsi anche abbastanza piacevole da ascoltare se la mantenete applicata al ponte nel caso vogliate suonare il contrabbasso pizzicando le corde piuttosto che suonandole con l'architetto.

Does what it's supposed to do
I've used this on DD for practice at home. It does lower the overall volume by my estimation by about 30 to 40%. No complaints

Significant reduction in volume
Not a musical device as such - the mute used in music is a much smaller circular shape. This is a way to preserve the sanity of anyone who happens to be in the room next to you when you are practicing.
My partner was one such individual, who happily reported that this mute reduced the volume from my double bass to a tolerable level.

Great product, it does the job well.

It does its job alright, it takes some off some of the volume of your double bass, but it'll make more of a difference to when you are playing arco than pizzicato. In pizzicato it will mean of course shorter sustain and in arco a considerable loss of harmonics since this will muffle up the sound quite a bit.
However, it does what it was made for: to play without bothering the neighbours!

Good not great
Hoped it would mute the sound a little more than it does. It more dulls the sound by reducing high frequencies rather than mutes it. It definitely helps our neighbours ears a little, though.
