Thomann FH-900 JSL JAZZ Bb-Flugelhorn

USA BUYERS BEWARE: I bought this from the Thomann page for 484 dollars, including shipping. However, UPS sent me an email and informed me I had to pay 120 dollars extra due to the tariffs and other miscellaneous things like that. Even at a 600 dollar price point, it's cheaper than competitors in the "budget flugel" market, and sounds incredible!!!

I bought this flugelhorn after my college refund came through, I figured that I'd need one at some point, but not one that costs thousands of dollars. I started digging. I played the ACB Doubler's Flugel at the International Trumpet Guild this past year and was thoroughly impressed by the quality of such an affordable instrument. I also knew about Thomann, and the price of their flugels, so I watched videos on those too. I decided to bite the bullet on the Thomann, I saw many good reviews and comparisons to horns thousands of dollars more and was very impressed. After unboxing it and playing it for several hours, I am even MORE impressed! This horn is incredible for the price that you pay, and sound wise, is on level with professional flugelhorns. My friends were all shocked after I told them the actual price of this flugelhorn when they heard it being played. The shipping is remarkably fast as well, getting from Germany to the US in 4-5 days over the weekend. I am IN LOVE with this horn!!! If you need a flugel as a student, or even as a professional, don't doubt the abilities of this horn!!!

I am a classically trained trumpet player with a fair bit of experience, I bought this to dip a toe in the world of jazz and to have some different tonal options when recording. I cannot believe the quality on offer here for the price. The horn blows very freely and intonation is excellent - even up high. Valves are nice, although I replaced the felt with rubber pads as I don't like how the cheap felt often makes its way into the valve casings. Just make sure you gently wipe and oil the valves often to begin with to break them in well. I expected to be replacing the mouthpiece, but it is fine and quite comfy for me. If you are looking for an affordable, very good looking instrument to try or have fun on - do not hesitate here, it is that good. I bought the bundle with the K&M stand, which is also excellent quality and recommended. The case is fine and they throw in some oil. A very cool looking and high quality horn.
