It’s impossible to eliminate the background hiss from the Tascam DR-05xp regardless of what the internet says or what ever you try. 1) changing the gain settings will only reduce your input levels or increase the hiss. 2) using an external mic; I’ve used my Sennheir MKH 416 and Audio - Technica AT4021, but still recorded hiss, so save your money it’s an expensive way to record bad audio. My iPhone records the same quality. I’m a ex-sound technician for theatre and bbc world service so know a little about audio.

32bit vs. 24bit self-noise
AlvinVoigt 02.05.2025
In 32bit mode much higher self-noise then in 24bit mode. Pointless.
There is no reason really not to buy the cheaper DR-05X or to upgrade from it to a DR-05XP.
