Well made facing at last - beware the ligature!
At first this seemed like a good mouthpiece but as time passed I became aware that the vandoren reed was wider than the tip rails and it squeeked with reeds I never had problems with before. About the only thing that fits the tip profile was an old Bari star plastic reed (narrower than average) with a rounder tip. As soon as that was on, it played normally. So I have marked down my initial overjoyed review with a ZZ 2 reed and Versa X ligature because the rubber 5* tone edge is actually a superior mouthpiece. I don't remember the NY or Vintage fatter body metal pieces not being wide enough for a common vandoren reed before. One last thing, the cork hole is not drilled in the centre, its visibly off when I study the shank. This may be a problem which affects me more than other people as I also disliked the Thomann Japan 6 for its "only just wide enough" tip rails. Maybe another player would like it with the reed edges protruding out from the mouthpiece? I have no idea how they sell so many of these. Not for me. How can you trust them to make a tip opening accurate to 0.01mm when they cannot drill a big hole in the middle for the cork? I wonder if Rico reeds fit it better.
