I had to wait nearly a month for this highly desirable drum but it was worth the wait.
The Supralite comes in at roughly half the cost of the Supraphonic but certainly holds its own in the quality stakes. Build quality is excellent-finish is immaculate…and the snare strainer has the smoothest operation of any snare drum I’ve owned.
I swapped the stock head (a personal conceit) for an Aquarian sound control coated batter, gave the drum a medium-tight tuning and it was ready to go. Articulation is fantastic…the drum demands to be played. It’s loud with a nice musical ring to it. The rimshot would fell a rhino at 50 paces. The drum also has a quality that only Ludwig snares seem to have…a kind of tonal neutrality that makes it suitable for any genre of music.
The Supralite sounds very much like the Acrolite (but with a little more resonance). It’s not very far away from the Supraphonic.
The 13x6 Supralite is a beautiful sounding snare drum-and it’s pretty to look at as well. Highly recommended.
