It's a lock-nut !
What can I say ? Nice ! Well made ! Does what it says ! Scores 10 out of 10. I like the finish - nice matt black !
I find these are essential on my boom arms, not only to stop the arm falling through the clamp, but also to lock down any connecting microphone clamps. Other information you may find useful - the diameter is 22.35mm and the thickness is 3.5mm.

They're magic!
Kind of.
I mean, it's a lock nut. It works.
However, no matter how carefully one screws them down onto the threaded tip of a stand or boom arm, before packing the stands into their flight cases, some of them will always magically work loose and fall off in transit even if the stands are stored vertically in the cases and cases transported upright! Magic, right?
Or maybe just physics but that doesn't make it less irritating when the stand you just carried half way across the venue is missing its lock nut and the upper tube has dropped through into the base!
Not only that but where do they go? A few drop into the case but most vanish without trace! They're probably swarming with the lost socks from the washing machine, Sharpies left unattended at gigs and XLR adaptors that never reappear after being "lent" to the stage crew!
So it's good that K&M sell them separately.

Does what a thumbwheel ought to do...
Threads onto 3/8" microphone stand threads - the narrower standard favoured outside of the US. Mainly use on telescopic boom arms to prevent the final section sliding inside of the previous section. Other uses can be found: I use a couple of them to fix mic clips in place on 3/8" threaded bars for a Jecklin disc. Keep a few spare for odd jobs. Well made and good value.

A useful tool to have as spare
Fits on the end of mic stands and helps to lock things in place.
This is the narrow size, I think it is 3/8" inch.

Screwed and nuts?
If you don’t want to feel screwed by screws or mounts mysteriously loosening themselves, then this is the ideal “locking” nut, preventing you from going nuts on set. Black color helps suppressing blinking reflections from powerful stage lights; although black Gaffa will have a similar effect, it’s one less task to do when setting up.

The one to get
Unlike Chinese copies, this one doesn't have rough edges, the thread is cut properly so it doesn't jam, and someone's actually thought about the details of the design. No reason to fault it!

Useful spare
I’ve never had one break, but I’ve lost some (or people have “borrowed” from me), so this is one of the spare parts I buy from time to time. Besides on mic stands, I also use one of these for the top bolt on my K&M Spider keyboard stand.

Good item from the best brand
I love that K&M sells all spare parts, and for fair prices. I lost two of these and could easily replace them!
