Maximum control, minimum fuss

The Hughes & Kettner StompMan is a fully functional guitar amplifier the size of a single effects pedal – for modern guitarists looking for the greatest possible flexibility from the smallest possible device. This single-channel analogue amp uses the company's proprietary Spirit Tone Generator technology to deliver a dynamic playing feel and an authentic tube amp character, without any latency or digital shortcuts. It's a pocket-sized powerhouse, with a maximum power output of 50W at 4 ohms (or 25W at 8 ohms and 12.5W at 16 ohms); users can also fine-tune gain, presence, resonance, and tone. With an FX loop that can be patched in manually and an adjustable solo function with boost, the Hughes & Kettner StompMan is more than just an "emergency amp": It's a fully equipped toolkit for the stage, the studio, and every pedalboard. Lightweight, robust, and entirely user-oriented, this is a pedal that can do more than just amplify!

Hughes & Kettner StompMan

An analogue brain for your pedalboard

The StompMan is a single-channel guitar amplifier with a 50W maximum output, designed to function as the centrepiece of pedal-based setups. Hughes & Kettner's analogue Spirit Tone Generator gives guitarists a dynamic playing feel with authentic tube response. The initial sound output can be shaped to dial in tight and punchy attack or soft, dynamic compression using the device's gain, tone, presence, and resonance controls, as well as the fully adjustable "sagging" control. The adjustable solo boost (+0 to +6dB) can be activated via footswitch, as can the serial FX loop, which also serves as an insert path for modulation or time-based effects like delay and reverb. Thanks to its line-out and return input, the StompMan can be flexibly integrated into a signal chain at the front of a pedalboard, or as a fly rig, backup amp, or recording device. The uncluttered control panel makes using the StompMan easy and intuitive: No menu, no display, no fuss.

Hughes & Kettner StompMan, detail

For purists and pragmatists

The StompMan was developed for guitarists who are looking for a compact, analogue powerhouse for modern setups – installed right on their main pedalboard, in the gear bag as a backup amp, or for recording on the go. It's absolutely ideal for players who look to their pedals first when creating their signature sound, and who need a responsive, honest amplifier to build on. Pragmatic players in everyday live situations also stand to benefit from the StompMan’s simplicity: It's lightweight, reliable, and produces enough power for the stage or rehearsal room. The device is perhaps less suited to traditional amp tweakers who like to get their hands dirty with fine-tuned preamp characteristics and channel switching: Hughes & Kettler has deliberately kept these aspects to a minimum. The StompMan's strengths lie in its accessible immediacy, its natural dynamics, and its playing feel, which offers an authenticity rarely found in compact amps of this type.

About Hughes & Kettner

Hughes & Kettner is one of the largest German suppliers of guitar and bass amplifiers. Founded in 1984 by Hans and Lothar Stamer under the name Stamer Musikanlagen GmbH, the manufacturer from St. Wendel in the Saarland can boast of its numerous innovations. For example, its first venture into the field of guitar amplifiers, the ASR64 from 1986, was the first programmable amplifier in the world. Thanks to its compact format, the Cream Machine of 1987 can be counted among the very first mini tube amplifiers. Equally influential were the Red Box analogue speaker simulation, the first six-channel amplifier (the Triamp), and the ZenTera, which used modelling technology in an integrated amplifier even before Line 6.

Main Character or Sidekick?

The StompMan is versatile, whether as the main amp on the pedalboard, as a reliable backup amp, or as a clean output stage for preamp pedals. By patching in modulation and delay effects using the manual FX loop, guitarists can quickly set up a fully-fledged rig in miniature – ideal for more intimate performances or in cramped jam spaces. A modelling preamp can also be fed in via the return, with the StompMan left to deal with the amplification itself. Thanks to the line out, even inexperienced sound techs can set up a direct connection to an audio interface or FOH, making the StompMan perfect for home recording, live gigs – or for hooking up to a traditional speaker cab. This is a device for anyone who wants an analogue, direct, and latency-free compact amp – it's no less than a modular, expandable control centre, one which can be seamlessly integrated into a wide variety of setups. The StompMan is powered by a 24-volt power cable, which is of course included in the package.
