Modern yet traditional

Gewa Novita 3.0 Electric Cello BK

For decades, Germany's GEMA brand has specialised in stringed instruments. The Novita 3.0, designed in collaboration with the experimental cellist Sascha Werau, pays futuristic homage to the classic cello. The 1886 landmark model – the "Grand Bernandel" - serves as a model for the Gewa Novita 3.0, ensuring that the basic proportions and playing position are familiar. The combination of premium materials such as carbon and wood makes the Novita 3.0 extremely sturdy yet remarkably light, and its bold, minimalist design only adds to its appeal. Its exclusive piezo electric pickup and preamp system has been specially developed for this instrument, so it can be played with headphones at home, amplified on stage, or through a PA system.

Luxury components

A carbon frame forms the structure of the Novita 3.0, while a central column made from basswood preserves the traditional aesthetic. Black spirit varnish, applied by hand, gives the cello a modern, elegant look, and just like the acoustic model, the Novita 3.0 has a solid maple neck and an ebony fingerboard. The contemporary-style scroll, the elegant Wittner tuning pegs, and the ebony tailpiece pay tribute to age-old tradition, while the Novita 3.0 pickup and preamp have been meticulously developed in the studio, where a recording of the Grand Bernandel was used as a reference in order to obtain an electric sound as close as possible to the timbre of an acoustic cello. The built-in preamp incudes an output for an amp or headphones, a two-band EQ and an aux input for external audio sources.

Silent practice, amplified playing

The GEWA Novita 3.0 is bound to appeal instantly to modern cellists looking for an innovative instrument. Despite its classic look and familiar ergonomics, its minimalist, avant-garde design marks a visual breakthrough. But its real strength lies in its sheer practicality: The ability to practise in silence, wherever they are, is a considerable advantage for many musicians. Its light, openwork design, reinforced by a carbon frame, makes it exceptionally resistant to variable weather conditions, and unlike acoustic instruments, it's much more resistant to knocks and other external stresses. This makes it an ideal companion when travelling, touring, or even on holiday.

About Gewa

GEWA Music is a German firm based in Saxony. It specialises in the development and manufacture of musical instruments and their accessories of almost all categories: Stringed instruments, guitars, wind instruments, drums, and percussion as well as digital keyboard instruments and their sound generation systems. The company manufactures partly for its own brand name and partly in close cooperation with other major industry brands such as DW Drums, Gibraltar, Gretsch, Hannabach, Ovation, Latin Percussion, Thomastik, Remo, Paiste, etc. The product line ranges from instruments for beginners to instruments for top-ranking musicians and other professional users. The multifaceted nature of the company is aptly summed up by GEWA Music’s motto: "We engineer music".

Designed to be amplified

The amplification of an acoustic instrument often presents complex challenges. Anyone who's ever experienced it knows just how problematic feedback and sound alterations can be, and the cello is no exception to the rule. Whether using a microphone or a pickup, the risk of unwanted feedback increases along with the volume, while the natural timbre gradually moves away from the original. The GEWA Novita 3.0 rises brilliantly to these challenges: The absence of a soundboard virtually eliminates feedback problems, rendering ambient microphones (which are often hard to manage in noisy environments) unnecessary. Designed from the outset as an electric instrument with the most acoustic sound quality possible, this cello delivers a consistent, faithful sound, regardless of the volume and intensity.
