This is an authentic sounding classic synth drum. A bit of a "One Trick Pony"? - perhaps? Don't get it if you use (or want to use) MIDI though! It's true analogue and has no MIDI function. It is possible to use the EH 8-Step Program to trigger it - that does have a MIDI input. Then you'll have to pay more than the Space Drum itself. Some people hate the sound of these things (They were rather over used in the '80's pop scene), but if you want the real classic vibe this delivers it. There is the added option of modulating the sound which is switchable, so you can have a more "Alien" sound if you choose, or switch this completely out. The activation button is a rather lightweight white plastic capped "Keyboard switch" (like on a computer), so don't expect something as tough as on a guitar stompbox. This does make it easy to operate with one finger in time with the rest of the music though. There is also an input trigger socket if you have your own pad or sequencer. I've tried an instrument through the aux input socket, but it only sounds while the device is triggered. It's of more use as part of an analogue synthesiser setup than an effects pedal for an instrument.

Great addition for studio use (sampling) or live gig setup as some sort of dancehall siren horn thing for waking up the dancefloor.
Does have it's limitations or you grow tired and irritated after less than an hour... But what comes out of it is crazy and analog.
I mostly use the SSD on a Volca Sample, just for snares or claps on 5th and 13th step.
It's really fun as long as you don't overuse it!
More interesting if you patch this with an effect pedal, delay or echo
