A solid update to a famous distortion
The updated version of the pedal is widely known for its piercing highs and very sensitive parametric EQ. While not very compelling with electric guitar, it really shines with synthesisers.
The new custom mode clearly targets metal musicians, delivering more focused, punchy bottom end and moderate high frequencies. However, the parametric EQ remains a slight issue.

They should've called it "MAXIMUM POWER 666"
Only minus is unremovable battery. Impossible to interchange.
Geesh... This pedal is INSANE! I'm afraid to turn it higher than 1/10 because it might blow my windows out together with the frames.
You can use it as a preamp and hooohoo it preamps the hell out of your guitar. Mamma mia 🤯
And as soon as you start rotating the drive knob, satan will start knocking on his ceiling with a broom stick, asking you to keep it down because he can't hear the screams of the perished in his hell anymore.

Do not sleep on this pedal just because it has a Metal Zone name
Waza version of the Metal Zone is honestly really versatile.
By far the stand out feature is the custom mode in my opinion, totally changes the vibe of the pedal from a grunge to a modern distortion, and it sounds great.
If you play on lower distortion it works as just a fuzz pedal really well!
And yes they did tweak the circuit so it sounds good even when not running through the fx loop, even in standard mode.
Overall this pedal isn't just a MT-2 upgrade, but its own different beast. That being said if you are thinking of buying the normal MT-2 buy this one instead, simply a superior pedal being capable of the same, if not better, tones and amazing versatility for only a marginal increase in price.

Really good one
I used to have regular MT-2 many years ago, I didn’t like the sound and sold it. But this one, with the custom mode, is really awesome! It can get you the right tone you are looking for. Pretty flexible pedal you can get different tones from. Watch some reviews, it’s a really decent unit in your pedalboard for the price. Even if you don’t do “Metal”.

The Boss is always the Boss :-)
Classic with a modern twist. A must have for every metal guitarist. :-) It took its rightful place in my pedalboard.

PHATT!!!
Never owned a Metal Zone but played with the original Metal Zone from friends.
Now I have the MT-2W I actually don't understand I never bought a Metal Zone.
I love all kind of Boos distortions, I have the Powestack, Combo Drive, SD-1W, all have their own purpose. Bluesdriver Waza & SD-2 on the Wishlist and maybe the Angry Driver too, love them all.

The Waza Metal zone is very versatile.
In standard mode is really like the standard metal zone which for me sounds very nice for the old style metal. But when you put it to custom it has that nice modern sound which the standard metal zone always needed.
