Sorry, really enjoyed Wilcoxons books, but this one is not as good as i hoped
Small introduction: I already finished Matt Salvage rudimental workshop, Wilcoxon 150 solos, John Pratt solos, Wilcoxon's Modern Rudimental Swing and some unknown solos I got years ago from my teacher, both in hands and in feet.
This specific book is used as part of warm-up before main practice session.
Regarding this book:
Cons
first - there is some number of solos where it's either printing mistake or writing issues as dynamic changes are randomly marked, some as graphic notation some as just words asc./cresc with line and in some solos that can be on the same page. Also there is some number of mistakes in notation itself(not a big deal if you are counting)
Second - random "print" size of bars, lines with few 8th can have 4 bars and right after that there will be line with 5 bars that will be filled with 8th/dotted 8th/rolls/16th and rests and that makes in really hard to read sometimes.
Third - never understood "Jazz" solos and why even bother writing them as 8th that are played as triplets when it can be straight up written as triplets, especially as same solo can have 8th and triplets and 16th without clarification how those 16th should be read - as 16 triplets with rest in between? as straight 16?
And good parts:
Solos themselves are good
For someone who just starting learning marching stuff will be really usable.
As i'm using it for warm up - the ones that are written with readability in mind are of great use
Quality of book itself is nice
The length of solos is perfect for everyday warmups
Do I regret buying it - absolutely no, but some parts of book really are not as nicely done as I expected.
