Positive Grid Spark 40 PW

It's incredible how many realistic amps this little thing can deliver.

It makes you want to play more...and that's the important thing.
I wish I had this back in 1985 when I was a teenager.

Since I already rated this with well deserved 5 stars, I will add some cons:

1) ad/da conversion rate is 16bit/44.1kHz. Should be 24bit/48kHz.

2) the device should be manageable via a desktop app/USB. SInce you plug the USB cable for recording, it's a bit annoying to also have to use a mobile app via bluetooth (bluetooth makes more sense for the spark-mini)

3) There should be 8 knob presets (a LEAD preset is missing between CRUNCH and HI-GAIN) and they should be editable. The 4 switchable presets would then be redundant. One single place for changing the modelled amp would have been better.

4) The sound is a bit dark ~"bassy" (not annoying though). Luckily there is a useful EQ in the effects section that can help with that.

5) There are a few sounds on my VOX VT20x (in which I swapped the default speaker with a Celestion 8/15) that IMO are better, maybe due to the 24bit conversion rate or the loudspeaker. I bought the VOX new here at 159 EUR and the Celestion speaker at 30+ EUR. So with about 200 EUR (i.e. 90 EUR less than the spark, 2,5kg more) I still think the vox to be a better choice. The vox tone-room also offer more customization for amps and effects (unfortunately the vox doesn't have an USB audio interface).

The spark is also one of the few modelling amp with good sounding presets. The glassy and crunchy presets, even if not my first choice as far as the modelled amps go, sound really really good without any tweaking.

I've a few amps but I was looking for one for my kitchen that was smaller and icould use with headphones, even without the ridiculous amount of setups though the app, it does that brilliantly, and I can just plug in and practice, but the app means I can play backing tracks, songs and lessons through it too from Spotify and you tube.

Erwartet hatte ich einen kleinen feinen Übe-Amp, mit dem man sowohl in Zimmerlautstärke seine E-Gitarren-Kenntnisse üben und erweitern - als sich auch durch (50 000 ?!) online-verfügbare Sound-Presets eine Vorstelllung über klangliche Ausdruckmöglichkeiten verschaffen kann. Das kann man mit dem Ding auch definitiv für vergleichbar wenig Geld. Aber für mich mit untragbaren Begrenzungen. Von der starken Bass-Lastigkeit hatte ich schon vor dem Kauf in den Rezensionen gelesen. Hätte mich nicht gestört beim reinen Gitarrenspiel, man kann ja mittels der Potis den Klang etwas nachjustieren. Als ebenfalls beworbener Bluetooth Lautsprecher aber ist das Gerät nicht ernsthaft einsetzbar. Macht dem Boom in Boom-Box wirklich alle Ehre und hat alle Höhen verschluckt. Richtig heftig finde ich aber, daß die allermeisten angezerrten Gitarrensounds eine ziemlich hohe Anschlagskraft erfordern, damit überhaupt ein Ton rauskommt. Wer nur mit dem Plek rumschreddert, merkt das vielleich gar nicht, zumal für viele wohl E-Gitarre in erster Linie laut und heftig sein soll, aber wenn man Picking versucht, kommt es vor, daß mitten im Zupfpattern der Sound komplett abreißt von recht laut auf Null, sobald man unter eine kaum steuerbare Schwelle kommt. Man spielt weiter, hört aber abrupt nichts mehr. Leises sanftes Picking geht so gar nicht. Damit verbunden auch keine echte Dynamik bzw gefühlvolles Spielen mit veränderten Lautstärken. Hat mit Sicherheit technische Gründe, die ich nicht durchschaue - oder die vielleicht nicht anders gehen, aber das ist wirklich sehr schade. Auch habe ich vergeblich versucht das Teil irgendwie mit meiner RC-300 Loop-Station zu verbinden. Wieso bitte gibt es keinen vernünftigen Audio-Ausgang?! Miniklinke, ernsthaft? Habe dann ein kleines Aux-Kabel vom Kopfhörer Ausgang an den Aux-In der RC-300 gestöpselt, aber es gibt ein heftiges Pfeifkonzert, das synchron pulsiert mit der auf der Rückseite blinkenen blauen Bluetooth-LED. Daher habe ich mir nochmal ein extra abgeschirmtes Kabel besorgt, aber es ist das Gleiche. Ein Direct-Out wäre doch nicht so schwer gewesen. Und die tausenden Klang-Voreinstellungen in der App bringen einem nichts, wenn es kaum sinnvolle Optionen (oder eigene Ordner) gibt, um da durchzu-browsen. Der augenstressende Kontrast der App ist Mini-Schrift auf schwarzem Untergrund, beides ist nicht in den Einstellungen zu ändern. Wenn man versucht Presets im eigenen Profil zu speichern, findet man sie nicht wieder... Alles überhaupt nicht intuitiv finde ich. Am Ende hat man keine Lust mehr tausend Mal durch die gleiche Gesamtliste zu blättern, die immer wieder mit tausend Mal Metallica und Dire Straits anfängt. Echt schade. Wäre so schön gewesen, aber ich schicke das Gerät heute zurück. Immerhin ist an der Verarbeitung nichts zu meckern. Und auch die Farbe weiß ist eine schöne Alternative zu den ganzen hässlichen schwarzen Boxen.
