The black and white bits are well made with no odd mechanical noises unlike the Casio it is replacing which clicks and grunts all over the place. The piano is very convincing as are the strings and jazz / rock organs. The few pipe organs are just OK, not nearly as good as the NP series. Orchestral sounds are quite useable. One big improvement is in the realism of the auto backings compared to earlier models. Just two complaints, first the display is blinding with seemingly no way to adjust it. I have cut a rectangle of black plastic to cover it while I am playing. Secondly the auto acc is set to a predictive mode which may be fine for playing country or the blues but is rubbish for anything else. E.g. if you are playing in C and you decide to play A the keyboard insists on playing Am! You need to read the book to figure out how to turn it off. This could be a big issue for sale folks demonstrating the keyboard in the showroom and could lead to numerous customers thinking the machine is faulty.

Lots of bang for the buck
Kev2 13.05.2021
Had this for about 5 months now using it for band work. Keys are not my main instrument and I bought it because, as the heading says, I figured it gives plenty of features and good sounds for a relatively modest outlay. In this respect it doesn't disappoint.

Sounds are generally very good, although some are more convincing than others. Strings are good (marcato is very useful), as are organs. When using the arpeggiator to try to emulate tremolo mandolin it sounds too artificial to be useful however.

Audio input is useful for playing backing tracks when rehearsing online.

The number keypad is an essential feature for selecting voices and functions speedily. The DSP, harmony, split keyboard, dual voice and arpeggio features are generally useful. However, even with the number pad, feature selection takes too long to be practical during a gig. This is where the programmable settings register comes in, allowing you to set up the keyboard with complex settings and then call them up with just two button pushes. However, there are only nine of these available and I really feel it needs more (my other Yamaha keyboard has twice the number). This is my main criticism, and it's really only an issue when playing gigs.

Go for it

I bought this for my desire to play an instrument. I am a beginner learning songs from YouTube. I am trying to play songs through you tube. You know what!? This keyboard is now complementing my desire to learn and bringing the music to the next level. It has a lot of features. Only thing is you have to cover it when not played. There are minute gaps between keys and good doors for dirt to go in. Yamaha is great!

If you have only played pianos and digital pianos give this a try
g0rdo 26.01.2024
As an adult learner I've only owned the same digital piano of fair quality for 15 years, so I didn't know what I was missing. I bought this keyboard as a way of having a piano on the living room, more accessible to my kids (my piano is in my "man's cave") but now I can 't stop playing it because all those voices and rhythms I never had before are so fun. And the keys are so light that it's like I've been in hard mode for years but now playing feels easier than ever.
And this is about the most basic keyboard you can get, I can't stop imagining the possibilities with a "bigger" one, which I will eventually buy because I'm loving this new world I've just discovered.
One negative point though is that the sensibility of the keys is such that it is quite difficult to play with consistent dynamics. It's a shame since this product could be all round perfect for its price range if it weren't for that.

very good starter keyboard.

does its job well, ordered it as a replacement for using my actual computer keyboard or placing midi notes by hand, and it works very well.

little disappointed at the lack of FX like a modulation wheel, but i'm sure that can be done digitally.
