Classic recording sound

The Universal Audio Volt 276 is a USB audio interface with two input and two output channels. With this interface, you can work with 24-bit depth and detailed 192kHz sampling thanks to high-quality AD/DA converters. In addition, there are microphone preamplifiers that provide a vintage mode for recordings. This emulates the sound of the legendary UA 610 microphone preamplifier. To make audio signals dynamically "rounder" even before digital conversion, the Volt 276 also has a compressor. With its help, the signal is not only simply processed, but rather modelled on the classic UA 1176, and thus provides an even more classic recording sound.

Everything you need

The Universal Audio Volt 276 has all the basic features that a high-quality small audio interface must offer today. In addition to its studio-quality converters, switchable 48V phantom power is of course also on board. A headphone amplifier and output enable latency-free monitoring. With its USB-C connection, the Volt 276 can be used with current laptops, iPads, and iPhones. The MIDI inputs and outputs also allow MIDI controllers to be connected to the DAW as well as supplying MIDI instruments with data and parameters from the studio software. The scope of delivery also includes a software package with a DAW and an editing programme for audio recordings as well as numerous instruments and virtual effects, from a simple tuner to emulations of well-known guitar and bass amplifiers.

For streamers, podcasters and musicians

Thanks to microphone and instrument inputs that can accept both jack and XLR connectors, singer-songwriters can use the Volt 276 to record their instrument as well as their vocals. And thanks to its switchable phantom power, it can also be used with condenser microphones. Livestreamers and podcasters can make professional-sounding audio recordings with this Universal Audio interface without much effort. Windows and Mac users can use the Universal Audio Volt 276 with PCs from Windows 10 and macOS from 10.14 or also on iPads or iPhones from iOS 14 onwards. Those who need just one input channel can take a look at the smaller Universal Audio Volt 176.

About Universal Audio

Few manufacturers can draw upon such a breadth of experience in the field of audio recording. Universal Audio's founding father Bill Putnam, along with his buddy Les Paul, have an admirable reputation as trend-setting music producers and developers of legendary analog studio technology. Putnam has recorded Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters and Sarah Vaughan, and was Duke Ellington's favourite sound engineer. He developed the famous 1176 Peak Limiter and distributed the Teletronix LA-2A level amplifier. This earned him a posthumous "Technical Grammy Award" in 2000. In 1999, Putnam's sons Bill Putnam Jr. and James Putnam re-founded Universal Audio, transferring their father's analogue vision and craftsmanship to the digital music world. Their product range includes audio interfaces, dedicated DSP farms and a variety of plug-ins, as well as analogue hardware devices.

Practical - at home and on the road

The Universal Audio Volt 276 is tailor-made for simple stationary setups while still meeting high performance requirements. It is barely larger than a DIN A5 page and weighs just under 1kg. This makes it an ideal companion for mobile recording setups where no more than two channels need to be recorded. It is also practical that the interface draws its power via USB. If all USB slots are occupied, an optionally available 5V power supply can be used. This also allows stand-alone operation as a microphone preamplifier in simple live situations. And to adapt the audio interface's compressor to different signal sources, the Volt 276 has presets for vocals, guitar, and fast percussive instruments such as drums. The inclusion of a Kensington lock also ensures that the interface is theft-proof.

Super nice interface with great sound and design
horatiu665 01.02.2022
I've been using Audient iD4 since 2015 or so, and the Volt 276 is a step up because it generally feels better to me in every way. The design of the unit, both in terms of functionality and aesthetics is great.

The sound is clear and the funky options you get for the compressor vintage thing on the inputs is a nice touch that shapes the sound in a cool way, and they have guides that explain what it all does, although I honestly am too much of a beginner in sound to really understand what's going on. But I used it in recordings and it's been good so far.

The USB connectivity with the little usb 3 hole is sturdy as opposed to the old interfaces with B where it was always moving around. When you connect/disconnect it, it doesn't make a peep, whereas my old interface would send a signal to the speakers making them go BOOM, surely not a healthy thing to do to a speaker. No such issues with this interface!

Universal Audio always makes great stuff.

The output sound is not of the best quality. But the quality of the recording of vocals and instruments is excellent.
