Good balance between price and features

I don't care what anyone else says about digital radios not changing your guitar signal. The truth is ... THEY DO! They ALL do!

Not in any evil way, but they all do the same as a Boss stomp box FX pedal - they buffer the signal. This manifests as a brightening of the tone, adding a not always pleasing treble edge to the sound.

The purpose of 'buffering' is to replace high frequencies due to capacitance loss in long cables. As the whole point of a radio is to dispense with long cables, there would be no capacitance loss to eliminate. Presumably, buffering is an essential and unavoidable component of the circuit and therefore cannot be avoided.

Fortunately, Line6 have considered all this. They KNOW that guitar players do not like change and so they have very thoughtfully included a means to trash your pristine buffered radio signal in order to mimic your previous dirty cable tone. The G30 offers three cable lengths.

I have found that position #2 most closely mimics the previous 'guitar straight into the amp with a 2-3m cable' tone, removing most of the added (buffer) brightness. Position #3 actually darkens the tone slightly.

With the receiver being relatively small I have been able to mount it on the pedal board (in fact, it is mounted underneath to save space on top) which is more convenient than my rack radio for smaller venues.

Some people have reported issues with the battery door, complaining that it is too flimsy. Others complain about the transmitter belt/strap clip.

I do not foresee any problems. I ALWAYS use an additional elasticated band to hold the transmitter to the guitar strap. This prevents the clip coming unhooked and also protects the battery door. it is a simple solution.

All in all, this is a good little unit for small venues.

Plug N Play with great sound
Felix2941 15.02.2014
I've used this wirless system already for over a year now and in this time I've never had any problems with it. I use it on a 5 string bass guitar and even the low b sounds exactly as it sounded with the cable.

Pro:
+ Sound
+ Plug N Play (simple insert the cables and choose a chanel)
+ Small size (receiver fits perfect on a pedaltrain nano)
+ 6 channels

Contra:
- Battery door opens easily (I would suggest using a cable connector to fix this)
- Belt clip (I won't trust the clip - I bought a wireless transmitter holder for 6€ which gave me a much better feeling)

So overall the G30 is a great wireless unit and if you fix the two contra points you'll definitely have a good time with it :)

Best bang for the buck in the price range
ndomuz 12.12.2018
This little guy is an excellent device, this is the second one I've bought. Never had any issues with the device or connection, it's very reliable. Bought 2300mAh rechargable batteries which seems to keep the device running for ~10h straight. I was vexed between this one and g50, but eventually I bought this one again since the g50 has a known issue with its mini-xlr input on the transmitter.

Pros: Small unit, fits perfectly on all types of pedalboards, easy to carry around if you're playing a venue with rented backline.

Cons: The battery door on the transmitter is a known issue, my previous unit also had it but a small amount of grip tape can keep it closed, so its an easy fix, does not impair functionality. The clip is basically useless as it does not hold on to the strap well, you should consider getting a small pouch for it to mitigate that issue. The design for the clamp connection to the transmitter is crap, I basically broke off the plastic holding it quite easily.

Recently I started getting some connection issues but I'm yet to determine if it's the faulty unit or something else since I did not have any connection issues with the previous one that I owned.

L
Good transmitter
Laivheli 25.05.2020
I have two pairs for live applications. One is used for bass, the other one has been used for acoustic guitar and ukulele. All three work fine. The sound is good. What I really like is that it is safe to turn the transmitter off any time to unplug the guitar cable and plug to another instrument, and then turn it back on.
I have experienced a couple of connection problems while playing live. The bass for gone for the half of the song. Restarting both ends resolved the problem but it wasn't so good because it was a live concert. I have no idea what caused it. And it happened again later for one time. During the next concert I had no such problems.

F
Good quality wireless with just "ok" build quality
Fx00 02.01.2019
I've been using Sommer Spirit cables for ages, when switching to this wireless I could not tell a difference with my setup. I switched the original patch cable for a Sommer spirit XS with a flat angled jack though. Sound quality is flawless, playing feel is the same as with a cable. Maybe just a hair more highs compared to my 5m Sommer, but I'm setting the cable length simulator to 0. Batteries last long enough for me (7-8 hours, using non-rechargeable batteries only, otherwise the remaining time is not correctly measured). Very good to be untethered, I was tripping over my cable all the time on stage.

Now the negatives: The build quality is not the best for the transmitter, while mine is still holding together after about a year and a half of using it, the battery door is quite flimsy and slightly protruding from the body of the unit. When the batteries get weaker after about 5 hours, a slight bump into the battery door sometimes causes the unit to disconnect/drop signal for half a second or so. I have put a tightening strip around mine to fix this issue - works ok but changing batteries is a bit difficult now.

CV
OK sound - really bad build quality.
Csaba V. 17.08.2014
For bass (as bass players mostly need a good clean tone) this is the cheapest radio system that does an acceptable job. Does not alter the sound that much - as I said in a band context this is acceptable.
For guitar I guess it is perfect.
But really really bad built quality. Something will break on it... battery cover or the beltclip-thingy (mine already broke...it is only held by a really thin plastic material, less then 1 mm).

But gets the job done (soundwise anyway) - I just put it in my pocket ... or maybe I will have my friend make a leather pouch for it.

Good for stage
Xeytin 05.10.2022
This is good for stage use, works good until about 8-10m distance from the receiver. Can't say it has too much interference generally, I'm happy with it. You will notice the transmitter's holding clip will break in the first few hours of using it, you will need to buy a holder for this.

Not close to Markbass
BennyD 11.12.2017
At first I thought it was defect. When placing the G30 receiver right next to my Markbass Little Mark III the signal was breaking up from time to time when the transmitter was 4-5 meters away and on all channels. I returned the product to Thomann and got it back with a note that the fault could not be found. Since then I have the receiver on the floor next to the pedalboard and it's working fine.

A
Line 6 G30 wireless guitar pack
Anonymous 04.10.2015
Excellent quality sound. I haven't noticed any change in tone when switching between this and a lead.
Small transmitter fits nicely in my pocket or in a strap holder.
Reasonable working distance between transmitter and receiver. Plenty for my pub and club gigs.
No noticeable latency in the venues I have played.

The only problems I have with this unit are...
1) the battery compartment isn't very secure. It popped open and spilled the batteries while I was playing, luckily at a rehearsal. For that reason, I now keep it in a leather strap holder
2) the transmitter and receiver are both plastic so I feel I have to be fairly careful with them in case I break them.
These are the reason that I have marked this down on quality.

I am impressed enough with it that I will keep it until it breaks and then buy another Line6 (although definitely one of the more expensive ones because they seem more 'hard wearing'.)

Overall opinion... For the price, there are more robust wireless packs but this one is the best sounding that I have come across.
