P
sorted my audio problem in the studio

First i'm not an audio professional, just running a ytube channel in a half treated studio room and like everyone else strugling and going through various options to get the best speech audio. After lots of online research although there are only a few reviews about the 6060 series it was clear that DPA has a good reputation but given the industry they focus on their stuff is a bit overpriced for a normal user accessories includes and the only reason im not giving it a full 5 stars as i had to get the microdot to 3.5mm jack adapter from tentacle and which is less than half the DPAs price (35€) and had to wait more than a week to receive it and keep the 6060 mic in the box all this time. Maybe thomann can get this Tentacle adapter in stock and sort this issue for future customers. Having this said once i got the mic even though i was expecting 3mm to be small i still got impressed by its small size. Was a bit worried about the self noise as i was previously using a rode NT1 with a mixpre10 II recorder which is pretty clean at only 4db of selfnoise (the rode) and since i need it to be portable i was going to use it with a Tentacle track E which isn't the cleanest recorder either but it does 32bit float which in my case has more priority over other aspects. Comparing the sound with the included track e lav at first hearing the difference was night and day. We expected it to be better due to its price of course but boy for its size the sound opens up and singal is a lot hotter. My wifes eyes opened big when she first heard it and after all the strugle we went through over the course of a 6 months with rode svmx, oktavas and the nt1 this solved most of our audio issue on the green screen and justified the invested money. Since the signal is stronger and distance closer to the source the selfnoise gets covered enough so after the first test i immediately stopped worrying about it. Once i get the xlr adapter i will test it on the cleaner Mixpre unit as well for comparison and curiosity to see how much sound quality im actually missing as i know that track E is no Lexotronic but Lexo doesn't do 32bit either as float is not possible yet wirelessly. We previously thought that the Track e included lav was Okey but after hearing the DPA 6060 the first reaction going back to tentacle was Yucky. Sound was soo muffled and low my wife thoght the mic was not powered. Once you hear it you wont go back. The NT1 was ok but given that sometimes i had it at 50cm+ distance from the mouth to keep it out of the way on the green screen set where a lot of full body action happens the DPAs signal the signal is stronger and sounds better picking less reverb and residual noise from the room making the signal cleaner and easier to edit. We found that we get the best sound using it on the forehead unless you can have it in front of you like on the table where it opens up even more. On the chest the sound gets covered a bit by the chin shadow so if you can hide it in your hair for the forehead position you will get better vocals. It is also extremely versatile as you can attach it to different surfaces and pick great sound with it for samples etc. Mic is omni so it will pick any ambient sound as well. Will have to test it with instruments as well. As an advice keep oils, sweat and adhesives away from the cable to avoid cracks as it happened to me with other cables on expensive equipment and treating it with care it should last for a good while. You wont be dissapointed with this mic.
